Burnmon Cottage is a new, well-appointed holiday home. It's clean as a whistle and convenient to all of the regional attractions. If you are looking for nights in the country that are absolutely silent - except for an occasional baa from the the neighboring sheep - and dark with a bazillion stars above, this self-catering is for you. (Living in suburbia, I always forget how silent quiet can be.) Noel, the host, is one heckuva nice guy who very kindly drove us into Belcoo on our first night so that my husband and I could both enjoy dinner without having to worry about drinking and driving. He was also ready with explanations of local attractions and a friendly chat. One note: All map apps (Google, Waze, Apple) can get really confused up in that part of the world. It could be caused by the spotty mobile coverage, but when you're out and about, it's a good idea to bring along a road atlas and verify that your navigation app isn't sending you on a wild goose chase. Even with an excellent map, we overshot the cottage a good three miles and had to phone Noel for directions. He, who has clearly done it before, stood out in his driveway to wave us in.

The unit was bright and modern. The pictures online don’t do it justice. Lots of beds. Tankless hot water for shower. Unit came with a washer and dryer, which is a real bonus. The washer had been disconnected while renovations were done, but not hooked up again. Ena, our contact, went above and beyond, washing our clothes in her own washing machine. The place is in walking distance of two local towns, which contain coffee shop, restauarant, pharmacy, pub. Lovely walking trails nearby. Kkitchen was well supplied with utensils. Ena left us a few snacks and milk to start us off. There is parking for one car, although you could manage two small cars.

Everything! We picked this place because we’ve been going around Ireland and Northern Ireland and it was a great stopping point between Connemara National Park (beautiful, btw!) and the Giant’s Causeway (also incredible—highly recommend carrick-a-rede too). It was the perfect place to stay. It was absolutely gorgeous, overlooking the lake with mountains all around. There was a very cute sheep that bounded down the hill when I called out to it, as well as a super fun pedal kart. The beds were comfortable and the shower was easy to work (as was the heating instructions left in the little booklet with all the house information and nearby things to do). If we had more time and I had realized we would be able to do things in the area we probably would have stayed longer, honestly, if I ever come back I might stay another night just to take in the views and walk around the area. It was truly amazing. While we were just there for a night, we didn’t use many of the appliances but everything seemed to be there for anyone who might be looking for a longer stay.
