Bright room around York University Subway

North York, Toronto

Bright room around York University Subway in Toronto provides adults-only accommodation with a garden and a terrace. The property is around less than 1 km from York University, 1.7 km from Aviva Centre and 16 km from Casa Loma. The accommodation offers a shared kitchen and luggage storage space for guests.

Featuring a shared bathroom with a shower and a hairdryer, rooms at the hostel also have free WiFi. The owner provided personalized service for check-in and the room rate is amazing value for money. I would highly recommend this property especially for people who have car transportation in Toronto and are not using public transportation. Guests should have a fair expectation about the room amenities and service type. The level of amenities is not a full-service hotel, but it is better than hostels. First, the location is a very quiet, safe area next to York University. There is no lobby area, but the host will personally welcome you whenever you arrive. The benefit of this arrangement is that, unlike a hostel, there are no people hanging out in the lobby, no unwelcome visitors making noise or people arguing about deposits, and of course, the price can be even lower than hostels in downtown. Some people like to have the "social experience" of hotel and hostel with sofas and breakfast tables, but as a frequent traveler I prefer to get in and out quickly and quietly. The tradeoff, of course, it's about 15-20 minutes from downtown on a car (longer if there's traffic delays). Public transportation is available using the nearby bus stop, but it's not next to the TTC subway. I booked a private room, and received a wonderful soft bed with shower, tub, clean sheets and a towel. The shampoo and bathing soap are not included, just bring your own or buy it cheap from a nearby store. Nearby businesses include a 24-hour McDonalds drive through (often busy at night), a 24-hour Pizza Pizza, multiple 24-hour Tim Hortons and an Esso gas station all within 5 minutes driving distance.

Hostels – what are they?

Hostels offer so much more than a cheap place to stay – they're also a fun way to travel and meet like-minded people. Common areas like shared kitchens and game rooms give you the chance to swap tips, tricks, and travel stories with backpackers from all over the world.

Hostels have come a long way since the first youth hostel opened back in 1912. Nowadays there's something for everyone, from budget "crash pads" to 5-star "poshtels." Whether you'd prefer a bed in a shared dorm or your own private room, you'll see that most hostels are cheaper than local hotels – and a lot more fun, too!
