At Sungate Hostel you will find a 24-hour front desk where staff organises a range of activities and sells tickets to local attractions. Other public areas include a shared kitchen and a shared TV lounge. Services like lockers, luggage storage and laundry can be requested onsite. I absolutely loved my stay at Sungate One - all hostel staff & volunteers were so friendly and approachable for advice regarding places to eat / sightsee etc., and I also loved how they were super engaging with all of us. They always had activities organised to bring us out everyday, which was super great and easy to meet and mingle with the rest of the guests at the hostel. Also, the rooms were spacious, beds were very comfortable and the shower facilities were really clean. I also felt very safe at all times. Overall, I had the best time here and would most definitely stay here again!

A&B Hostel Principe Pio

Moncloa-Aravaca, Madrid

Located in Madrid, 1.1 km from Royal Palace of Madrid, A&B Hostel Principe Pio offers air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi and express check-in and check-out. The property is set 2.1 km from Plaza Mayor, 2.3 km from Puerta de Toledo and 2.3 km from Puerta del Sol. The accommodation provides a 24-hour front desk, a shared lounge and organising tours for guests. I liked the privacy, the beds have 3 walls and a curtain. I liked the "lockers" under the bed. I liked the bathrooms, it's girl's bathroom with several showers and several sinks and several wcs. I liked that you get a towel, usually hostels don't give you one and i also liked that there was shower gel in the shower when usually you have to buy them. The bed was comfortable. The staff was nice, the only thing that's missing to this hostel in order to be perfect is a small shelf near the light and a hanger outside the bed for the coats.

Hostels – what are they?

Hostels offer so much more than a cheap place to stay – they're also a fun way to travel and meet like-minded people. Common areas like shared kitchens and game rooms give you the chance to swap tips, tricks, and travel stories with backpackers from all over the world.

Hostels have come a long way since the first youth hostel opened back in 1912. Nowadays there's something for everyone, from budget "crash pads" to 5-star "poshtels." Whether you'd prefer a bed in a shared dorm or your own private room, you'll see that most hostels are cheaper than local hotels – and a lot more fun, too!
