Ekanek Hostel

Silom, Bangkok

Located in Bangkok, Ekanek Hostel is a 1-minute walk from Patpong and provides facilities like terrace and shared lounge. Ideally situated in the Bang Rak district, this hostel offers a bar. Snake Farm-Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute is 300 metres from the hostel. First and foremost, the location of the hostel is excellent in terms of convenience and accessibility to transportation and necessity. Situated in one of the busiest areas in Bangkok, everything you need is within a reachable walking distance and the nearby streets are bustled with food stalls, restaurants and bars. For instance, BTS Sala Daeng is about a 6 to 7 minute walk away; 7 Eleven is a two-minute walk away; Pat Pong Night Market is approximately five minutes away; and premises such as Silom Complex, Boots, McDonald, Too Fast To Sleep, Lumphini Park, and many others, take less than ten minutes to reach. In regard to the facility itself, the hostel far exceeded my expectation in terms of comfort and cleanliness. The room itself is kept at a nice temperature and the bed including the pillow and blanket feels extremely comfortable after a long day of adventure and exploration. The bathroom is very clean and hygienic with toiletries free of charge. Washing machine (detergent provided) and iron are available for use which is very beneficial for those who prefer to not over-pack and need to freshen up their clothes after sweating under the tropical climate. On the ground floor, there is a communal space which travelers can spend time working on pending tasks or just chilling with fellow hostel-mates. The staffs are extremely friendly and helpful which I believe is a really underrated quality of a good hostels in many locations. In fact, I had messaged them a few days before my planned arrival date (which has already passed the free cancellation period) that I have to delay my staying dates to a few days later and they gladly accepted my request. Moreover, they even gave a notice of free cancellation for those who wish to not stay at the hostel due to the nearby construction which is being taken place. Overall, the hostel is excellent for any traveler on any kinds of vacation. I would choose to stay at Ekanek Hostel again during my next trip there. :)

Norn Yaowarat Hotel

Chinatown, Bangkok

Featuring free WiFi throughout the property, Norn Yaowarat Hotel is located in a 4-storey building in the heart of Bangkok's China Town on PadungDao Road which is also called Soi Texas. It's set just 300 metres from Sampeng Market and 190 m from Wat Mangkon MRT Subway Station. The sheets were soft, and there was a clean towel and water bottle on my bunk! I liked that they had several lockers. Three in total, and some racks to hang clothes and towels in the bathrooms as well as the rooms. The breakfast had pretty much everything you would want to have a healthy, and hearty breakfast. That made my day 👍🏼

Hostels – what are they?

Hostels offer so much more than a cheap place to stay – they're also a fun way to travel and meet like-minded people. Common areas like shared kitchens and game rooms give you the chance to swap tips, tricks, and travel stories with backpackers from all over the world.

Hostels have come a long way since the first youth hostel opened back in 1912. Nowadays there's something for everyone, from budget "crash pads" to 5-star "poshtels." Whether you'd prefer a bed in a shared dorm or your own private room, you'll see that most hostels are cheaper than local hotels – and a lot more fun, too!
