Situated in the women's division of the World Heritage-listed Fremantle Prison, this YHA offers a mix of private and shared rooms with access to free WiFi. I stayed in a former prison cell on the ground floor. There is a bunk bed in the cell, a table, and two chairs. The windows are up high and small, just the way they used to be, which gives the room a real "cell-feeling". The bunk bed was new, and the pillows were comfortable and thick. There is a heater and a fan in the room, and you get real bedding, not just a sheet, as well as a towel and shampoo and shower lotion. The kitchen offers everything you need; there is inside and outside seating for dining and a community room with book exchange shelves for those who prefer to read real books. The outside area offers chess, table tennis, and volleyball as well as a barbecue. Fremantle Market is less than a five-minute walk away, and the Fremantle prison is just on the other side of the wall.

We booked pretty last minute and arrived shortly after booking. Jayda, the hostel manager, was outstanding! She greeted us in a very warm, friendly way when we arrived and we were able to check in straight away. The room was spacious with a private fridge, which was very handy, and the double bed exceptionally comfortable. The bathrooms and kitchen were very clean and the location is great - only a short walk to the beach and center of Fremantle. After checking out, Jayda kindly allowed us to store our luggage at the hostel for the day and it really made moving to our new place a lot easier. Overall it is a very family-like vibe at the hostel, which is something I haven’t experienced before at other hostels. I’d highly recommend this hostel to other travelers, whether it’s for a short or longer stay, and I was sad to only stay for one night. Would definitely come back for another stay! :) Thank you, Jayda - you are great and make this place feel very special and like a home away from home.

Incredible place, big open common area inside and out, TV, nice and breezy, everything is so so clean they are always cleaning. The beds are comfy and there's A/C at night, fully stocked kitchen and so organised! Staff is always friendly and helpful.
