Super clean. Hostel of good design: showers, toilets, kitchen, coffee machine etc on ground floor while beds on upper levels, so very quiet for good sleep. Lots of common space to relax in. Staff helpful and informative responding with plenty eating and drinking options. Check in and out can be fully electronic, while staff in place during reasonable hours.

This is the nicest hostel I've ever stayed at, and it's not even close. I also stayed at some great hotels during my stay in Japan, but Kotori still stands out as my favourite. I had a private room, and it was so worth it. The first thing I noticed was how clean everything was - the room smelled amazing, the mattress looked brand new, and the bed linens were crisp and white. The dining area upstairs and bathroom/ laundry areas on the main floor were similarly spotless. I usually carry flip flops to use in communal showers, but there was no need in this case - the showers always looked scrubbed clean. Every part of the hostel is well decorated and looks modern and cool. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and the check-in/ check-out process was quick and easy. I really hope I get the chance to visit again!

This was our favorite stay in Japan for so many reasons- The owner, Shin is so generous and friendly and made our stay wonderful! He picked us up from the train station, sat and talked with us, educating us on all the interesting g places to see in Takamatsu. His home has been in his family for over 2oo years and has been removed so tastefully with fine carpentry. We loved the cedar lined bath! I cannot recommend a place to stay more highly! Miyama-tei is a quiet place surrounded by rice and vegetable fields. I enjoyed a restful stay in a comfortable bunk room. The facilities were very clean and the kitchen is well equipped. There are a few small cafes within walking distance. Check-in was self service and the instructions sent ahead of time were easy to follow.
