Awesome common areas, very clean, laundry, comfortable. Staff is so friendly and helpful. Great location to walk everywhere in Matsumoto.

My party of 5 total stayed only one night when hiking the Magome to Nagiso section of the Nakasendo. Proximity to train station and Nakasendo trail was the original selling point, but we fell in love with the place as soon as our host toured us around. It feels like staying at an artsy bed and breakfast, except you provide the breakfast and you get the entire place to yourself. There's small, delightful touches of personality and hospitality every where you look. We did not want for anything. Our sweet host met us at the front door to enter data from our passports and then gave us a walk through of the building. Two toilets and two showers was perfect for a group of 5. Fridge and other kitchen appliances work great. We listened to the CD disc player on the wall while reading the books and it was a lovely experience.The futons were placed very thoughtfully according to our parties needs. In addition to the trail and train station, there's a grocery store, a historic bridge and a cafe all within a couple minutes walk. The patios were a great hang out spot and we saw monkeys near the river around 7am. Honestly, I wish we had stayed longer but our plans dictated we move on. Next time we will try to book a few more nights so we can explore the area more!

Best place in Japan by far. I had a fantastic time at the Bohemian Shelter. Gaspard is an incredible host making everyone feel at home and super helpful. It's been definatly the highlight of my Japan trip! Highest possible recommendation! Thank you for your hospitality, kindness and all the lifts :)

1166 Backpackers conta com quartos em Nagano. Templo Zenkoji fica a menos de 1 km de distância e Estação de trem de Nagano fica a 2,5 km. The staff was very welcoming and social. Orie responded to all our queries on email within minutes and Sakura and Etsuke were always available to share their insights or some chats over a cup of tea. The location was very close to the Zenkoji temple and within 500 m of many restaurants and coffee shops. The rooms were comfortable and the dorms had a bit of Japanese touch.

As someone whos stayed in over 50 accomodations while backpacking latin america and currently making my way through asia- guest house kura has to be one of my favorite. The guest house has all the feeling to it that you’d hope to experience on a trip to japan. The most beautiful combination of traditional Japanese architecture, paper walls, sliding doors, single pane glass windows, a garden in the back, Futons on the floor. Beyond the physical aspects, though, marina and momokas presence are what make the guest house exactly what it is. It feels more like a family than place you sleep. Their warmth and presence of sanctuary seep into the days that you’re there, and before you know it you’re saying goodbye not to strangers. Thank you for having me, and if not nothing else next time I’m in Japan I’ll return to Nagano solely for guest house kura
