Situated in Matsumoto and with Matsumoto Station reachable within 1 km, Couch Potato Hostel features free bikes, non-smoking rooms, free WiFi throughout the property and a shared lounge. My stay at this hostel was wonderful. It’s beautiful and cozy, combining traditional Japanese decor with modern functionality. The staff genuinely care about making guests feel comfortable and ensuring they have everything they need. For me, the shared space is important, and it was very nice here – though perhaps a few more board games would be a great addition. The dormitory room was fantastic, with big, soft mattresses. I definitely recommend it!

Providing free WiFi, MOUNTAinn Nagiso is located in Nagiso, 4.7 km from Kotoku-ji Temple and 4.7 km from Sekibutsu Kanzan Jittoku Statue. My party of 5 total stayed only one night when hiking the Magome to Nagiso section of the Nakasendo. Proximity to train station and Nakasendo trail was the original selling point, but we fell in love with the place as soon as our host toured us around. It feels like staying at an artsy bed and breakfast, except you provide the breakfast and you get the entire place to yourself. There's small, delightful touches of personality and hospitality every where you look. We did not want for anything. Our sweet host met us at the front door to enter data from our passports and then gave us a walk through of the building. Two toilets and two showers was perfect for a group of 5. Fridge and other kitchen appliances work great. We listened to the CD disc player on the wall while reading the books and it was a lovely experience.The futons were placed very thoughtfully according to our parties needs. In addition to the trail and train station, there's a grocery store, a historic bridge and a cafe all within a couple minutes walk. The patios were a great hang out spot and we saw monkeys near the river around 7am. Honestly, I wish we had stayed longer but our plans dictated we move on. Next time we will try to book a few more nights so we can explore the area more!

First time skiing in Hakuba, first time in Japan ... I chose 'Bohemians' simply because of the good reviews – I had no idea where it was or how convenient it would be for our stay. I was travelling with the family and had so many questions, but Gas answered them all very patiently. He runs an amazing hostel/guest house and went out of his way to accommodate us. I loved the diverse mix of people who were there at the same time as us – breakfast and dinner times were in particular really social and there was a lovely communal vibe.

Great hosts, delicious veg and non veg food and a charming clean property on top of it. Highly recommended and one of our favorite accommodations during our month long trip to japan.

1166 Backpackers is located in Nagano, within less than 1 km of Zenkoji Temple and 2.5 km of Nagano Station. With a shared lounge, the 1-star hostel has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi. All the staff are very nice and welcoming , they all make you feel like home. I've been around Japan for two months but I can say this was the best hostal I've been 🥹 if I ever return to Nagano I will be staying here for sure

Situated in Suzaka, 1.9 km from Suzaka City Zoo, Guest House Kura features accommodation with a garden, free private parking and a shared lounge. Guest House Kura was my first time as a solo traveler, and I felt right at home. The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and made me feel safe. We even had a party there, and it was the best place to meet new people and experience traditional house living with a Futon bed. Overall, it was the best experience I’ve had so far!
