Kenya in general does not have nice hostels and accommodations; however this place is like an oasis in the desert. It’s amazing. Very peaceful and super nice. I stayed in the 8 bed dorm. Very quiet, clean, nice bathrooms, lockers, privacy curtains, mosquito nets (I never saw mosquitos in the rooms), hot water, great kitchen, nice little free breakfast, nice staff, super nice pool, good common areas, great WiFi, location is fine. There are tuk tuks everywhere. I ended up staying here 9 nights. This hostel is very new and you can tell.

The accommodation features a shared kitchen, a tour desk and luggage storage for guests. The place is super cozy, the garden with the pool is fantastic for relaxing afternoons. The breakfast is lovely and our hosts were very welcoming. It’s a bit of a walk (about 15 min) to the beach but nothing undoable.

The staff was really friendly and tremendously helpful, the breakfast was great, and common areas were kept clean. I would have stayed longer but sadly they were booked out.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable, and the location was perfect. The service exceeded my expectations, and everything was well-organized from check-in to check-out. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great stay. I will definitely come back again!

The rooms are all equipped with a wardrobe. Most rooms have a private bathroom but some rooms come with access to shared bathroom and toilet facilities. Hariette was amazing. She went above and beyond to make sure my needs was filled. Thank you, if I come back to Mombasa, I know where to sleep next time

The property is around 1.8 km from Mombasa Train Station, 1.9 km from Tusks Monument and 3.4 km from Burhani Gardens. The hostel provides an indoor pool and room service and free WiFi throughout the property. By way of context, the facility is for training marine students, and the hostel business is an afterthought. There are multiple buildings with dormitory-type rooms, and BMA is renting out such spare rooms. When I was there, no students were in the building I stayed in, which probably had hundreds of rooms. The rooms are small, perhaps 100 square feet. The facility is gated and has guards, but the place is sprawling, quasi-industrial in certain regards, and deserted in the evenings after students left. Given its location, guests need to take tuk-tuks or cabs, easy to get, to visit attractions. Within the facility, I had periodic access to two nice swimming pools and the cafeteria. My room had a balcony that overlooked a channel, where boats came and went at all times. For certain travelers, such as myself, the setup is perfect but it is certainly not right for everyone.

The hostel offers a barbecue. Guests at Backpackers castle will be able to enjoy activities in and around Watamu, like snorkelling. Oh! Oh! Oh! I had three of my best days these year at the castle, someone here said it’s is really a castle and I can attest to that. Such a quiet, calm and CLEAN place. I absolutely loved and enjoyed my stay here. To the owner, thank you so much for being extremely nice and helpful to me.

I arrived late at night and she served me some of her homemade food because I was hungry. The next morning when I was tired I was worried about check out time. She told me not to worry and helped me in anyway she could.
