Very clean and well maintained. Friendly and helpful staff. Made my trip convinient and got proper rest for a solo traveler like me. Went in March, seems to be low season. Booked in the hostel and had the room to myself for 7 days. And breakfast was included which was nice.

Arrived very early on a Friday morning before reception was open, my intention was only to drop off luggage and return later, but Marco from the kitchen staff welcomed me with breakfast. Very very VERY welcome surprise, not the kind of breakfast you would expect from a hostel either, plus unlimited coffee!! After breakfast I went to reception, and Tom swiftly handled my check-in, stored my luggage, and helped me get an activity and dinner booked for the day. Then while showing me to my room he introduced me to every human we passed by, whether staff or guests. I won't soon forget that experience, Tom's contagious energy that morning set the tone for the entire trip. Went on a great hike with Rita that same morning (highly recommended) and for the next few days and nights I was made to feel like part of a big family. Out of the Blue is one of those spots that sets the bar at a new level, they are doing everything right. Shoutouts to staff members Jessica, Carla, Katia, & Thiago for helping me practice Portuguese, and to Bea for teaching me some Italian.

Stefan is a super host, you can always count on his help and good word. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and the freshly prepared breakfasts are delicious. An ideal option for travellers wanting to climb Pico, at a very reasonable price.
