Built between 1846 and 1847 by the SA Mining Association and designed by G.S Kingston, this was one of the ‘Thames Street Cottages’.
Copper Mine Cottage is one of the first buildings to be built in Burra, and is a fine example of one of the the earliest residential buildings that still remains in South Australia.
Relax and enjoy this charming, comfortable 2 bedroom, self-catering cottage, with its mod cons, curios and old wares that is a stones throw from the town centre, shops and pubs.
There is on street parking directly outside the property which is situated on Upper Thames Street close to Market Square. You can also park in the private parking space which is adjacent to the left of the building off of Upper Thames Street. There is enough room for a caravan or camper van in this space.
You also have back access to the property via Lloyd street
The local IGA is only two minutes’ walk from the property, where you can purchase all of the supplies you may need during your stay.
If you would prefer a shopping spree to Woollies, then you can visit the local store in Clare which is located about 15 – 20 mins from Burra.
Please do not place anything on the cook top hot plate, such as the toaster or other utensils, for safety purposes. You have a range of pots and pans intended for cooking on this surface. Please ensure all of the hotplates are turned off when they are not in use.
You are welcome to enjoy the combustion fire in the cooler months and during these months fire lighters and firewood have been provided for your initial use.
Should you require further wood during your stay, please purchase at the petrol station or from one of the local wood suppliers in the Clare/Burra region.
There is a split system in the lounge, and another air conditioner at the back in the kitchen.
Each bed has an electric blanket during the cooler months and portable heaters can be made available.
To ensure your safety please turn these appliances OFF when you are out of the Cottage.
