Escape the everyday hustle and bustle in the heart of truffle and wine country in the beautiful Southern Forests region of South Western Australia. Splendid Wren Cottage is located a comfortable 20 minute drive from Manjimup and 35 minutes to Pemberton. This cottage is one of 25 remaining original timber mill worker's cottages hidden in a forest clearing off the highway. The mill was opened in 1939 by Bunnings Bros Ltd, who went on to build the Bunnings empire we know today. This two-bedroom character cottage is part of a historic mill settlement of 24 remaining cottages, hidden off the beaten track and offering a glimpse into the South West hinterland's timber town history. Perfectly set up for couples, families or small groups of friends, Splendid Wren Cottage has been gently updated to offer all the comforts of a home away from home, without sacrificing the charm and character of this beautiful 80 year old forestry cabin. There is one queen-sized bedroom, and one larger bunk room with a single-over-double bunk and a set of king-single-bunks. ***Please note that sheets and bath towels are not provided*** If you would like to hire linens, please reach out ahead of your stay. This helps us to keep cleaning fees to a minimum and to conserve our limited and precious rainwater. Wake up to enjoy coffee at sunrise over the forest canopy from the east-facing verandah, spend your days exploring the old logging trails and return to see the resident kangaroos and emus gather at dusk. As the evening cools, settle in beside the slow-combustion fireplace and enjoy the fruits of the surrounding Manjimup and Pemberton wine regions. Sometimes the village is quiet and sleepy, and other times there may be owners tinkering on their cottages or other holiday-makers enjoying a digital detox and meeting the resident wildlife. Get out and explore or hunker down by the fireplace and take a break from the real world - it's up to you!
