Aircon - it was very hot. Wildlife - iguanas, birds and basilisks came to visit. Proximity to the beach (the north beach is much the better of the two). Restaurants and supermarkets nearby.

The setting of the property is absolutely gorgeous in the beautiful jungle, with many opportunities to see wildlife right there. Erickson and his family go above and beyond with making the stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. I was taken on an afternoon walk on my first afternoon to get to know the birds and wildlife. I went without a car and Erickson constantly helped me with taxi transfers, which they run from a separate family business. Maria, the mother, cooked delicious meals from scratch every evening (for the full duration of my 5 night stay) and it was the best meals I had in CR. All my tours were also arranged for me, which were all fantastic. Cannot recommend this place enough!

We loved everything. From the moment we were picked up by Steven, and driven to this beautiful hideaway, we didn't stop smiling.
We came to Greenleaf at the end of a 2 1/2 week adventure around the North and west of Costa Rica, and we'd already been in Drake Bay for a few days first, but wanted to finish our trip with a bit of luxury and relaxation with amazing views, and this exactly is what Greenleaf provided.
Helen, and Steven, welcomed us with open arms into their wonderful setting. We were treated to delicious juices, fresh fruits, amazing food (which catered brilliantly for my vegan ways), bird watching, coaty spotting and introductions to the whole monkey family who live in the jungle behind the bungalows. Helen was so helpful before we even arrived, booking our snorkeling trip for us, as well as arranging our flight back to San Jose from Drake Bay. Steven was so kind, offering to drive us any where we needed, getting us to and from the snorkeling pick up, as well as dropping us off at the airport. They both make such a dream team, you can really understand why people come back year after year.
At the end of a wonderful trip we couldn't have chosen a better place to soak up all our adventures and add this magical experience as a wonderful cherry on top.
If you are thinking of going to Drake bay, make sure you stay here, or at least get in touch with them for all their amazing local knowledge and passion.
Thank you for making us feel part of the family.

Great place to stay if you want to visit Corcovado national park. Not only Corcovado is worthwhile but Drake Bay itself as well. I would recommend taking the boat from Sierpe to Drake Bay as it’s very convenient and the boat ride is extremely scenic!

Very nice peaceful place, at the grounds of a friendly costarican family, right on the edge of the rainforest. Beautiful Ganadito beach is at walking distance. The cabin where we slept was new and fine.

The flora and fauna of adjacent parks is amazing but you must visit them with a guide for the appropriate access and to really appreciate what is there. Drake is a the ideal place from which to reach the parks. We travelled to Drake Bay by intercity bus from San Jose and connected with the ferry. The "wet landing" was a first for us - a genuine adventure where the ferry assistants wade your luggage to shore on their shoulders and the passengers just focus on getting themselves to shore. The ferry takes an hour or so through amazing mangroves. Make sure to tell your hotel to book you on the ferry to avoid misunderstanding -- there are only two ferries per day and you don't want to lose a day/night in Sierpe.
The park is amazing --book a tour well in advance as daily entries are limited. Access to the park is by boat. Birds galore, several species of monkey including the mighty howler, tapirs, two species of ant eater, and many more creatures. We did the snorkeling tour too which was also amazing. We saw deep sea turtles, sharks, manta rays and a plethora of species of fish. Beautiful, pristine and rules about not interrupting wildlife. For example, we were watching a turtle and she started to rise for air and we all had to move back 4-6 metres and we had the joy of then watching her float on the surface for a while and just rock in the waves. Being herself and breathing without feeling anxious

The town, while not a secret by any means, has still avoided the trappings of rampant tourisim. There is a local vibe that is genuine and refreshing.. I like that the town is still a bit rough on the edges.
The abundance of world class outdoor experiences is the icing on the cake.

It is a very peaceful place, we definitely recommend it. Beautiful walking trail to san josecito, magnificent view, good restaurants (kalaluna & coco cafe), a lot of activities. You have access to the Corcovado NP, waters are calmer than most beaches in costa rica (good for swimming). Snorkeling tour to cano was great!

It is a very remote, relaxed place.
It is a very remote, relaxed place. Great to experience the simple life. There is a beautiful hiking trail along the coast line to more secluded beaches. Many activities to be done from the beach, including day trips to Corcovado national park, night tours, snorkelling trips.
The beach itself is not amazingly beautiful- it’s not pristine white sand and clear waters- it has a very rustic feeling and there are no beach bars. But there are places to eat just up from the beach or grab a drink from the supermarket. We saw a lot of wildlife! Scarlet macaws are flying around. There’s a nice restaurant called Lookout restaurant with good food and a great view over the bay.
Mohagine Hotel was incredible, it was in a beautiful location and with so much to see and do! when I arrived at the hotel there were monkeys right there so we stood and watched them from a distance to not scare them away! Olman was wonderful and met me at the beach when I arrived by the boat taxi from Sierpe and he helped organise everything for me that I wanted to do including diving and a tour or Corcovado national park! I can't wait to return to Drake's bay, it is beautiful and so is this hotel!
Located behind some greenery in the heart of Drake Bay. Fair walk up the hill. Hostel type setting in a dusty little town. Shared kitchen was nice to have. Jamaica helped with organizing a night walk and a snorkelling trip. Night walk was fascinating. Snorkelling was fun - very expensive. Walk to Playa San Josecito is really enjoyable but closer to 3 hours - not 2. Organizing a return boat trip was weird - needed to go from boat to boat asking if they could bring us back - it was $10 each return.
Pool, room & balcony, restaurant/bar, amazing staff, conveniently located, the wildlife (we saw many different types of birds, iguanas, and other lizards). Just a heads up there are many birds and dogs close by. The birds get their day started pretty early with lots of noise, about 5am, on top of that there is a neighborhood dog that barks a lot at night. Drake Bay is a super small town surrounded by wildlife, so you better be aware and be ready for the noise no matter where you stay.
the staff was very nice and helpful during our stay. They came to pick us up to the beach when we got to Bahia Drake, which was very helpful. The hotel is very nice, with a common area with hammocks and seating area and the room was spacious and clean. We did a stay in Corcovado for a night afterwards and they kept our luggages during that night with no charge and they took us down to the beach to take the boat back to Sierpe afterwards as well.
We very much enjoyed the kindness and thoughtfulness of Cristian and his family. Meals (breakfast and a few dinners) were very nice. The location - close to beach, boat landing, trail to Drake Bay and to rivers - was very convenient. There was a feeling of “mi casa es su casa”. Hot water, a/c, wifi very adequate. Although there aren’t really restaurants and shops nearby, it was great staying in a Tico community with few tourists.
Casita was in the woods and did not have a/c but felt cool. The host was very friendly and helpful and went out of her way to ensure we were picked up from the beach and brought to the hotel. She also gave us recommendations for restaurants and was very helpful. Lovely view over the sea from where you have breakfast. Can recommend Kalaluna Bistro for lunch and dinner, very close by and great foid.
Lovely little resort in the stunning Drake Bay. The rooms have nets on the windows so when you sleep you can hear both the sea and the jungle - magical! The hosts are absolutely lovely and go over and above to make sure you feel at home. The hotel is actually attached to a restaurant where we had dinner - had an amazing pasta with fresh local seafood. Honestly a really lovely experience.
Great family owned hotel with an amazing view on Drake Bay.
We loved the place, the food and lovely family.
The beach (Playa Gitana) is just a short walk away.
Ingrid helped us a lot to plan our activities and hikes.
The youngest family member is a talented painter…for those who like art check out here beautiful nature paintings!
We can recommend Hotel Manolo 100%.
Really nice hotel with amazing view on the ocean. The breakfast was delicious and served on a balcony in front of the sea. The staff was really helpful and especially Abel who helped us all along with restaurant recommendations, luggage, and booking snorkeling, diving and Corcovado tours. I highly recommend and thanks Las Cotingas for this unique stay!
The staff here are so kind and helpful. Communication in advance is great, they helped us get to the hotel using public transport. The hotel has a really nice vibe. The room is comfortable and clean, and the pool is lovely. You can often see monkeys from the pool. The restaurant in the hotel is also fabulous, the tuna steak in particular.
Very comfortable hotel about 7/8mins walk from the beach. Large room with air-con. Simple but good breakfast (not a buffet) provided by the on-site restaurant which is not owned by the hotel. The restaurant owner is exceptionally accommodating- producing breakfast as early as 5.15am for those goon tours. Hotel has a good pool.
Centrally located in Drake Bay, the staff was very friendly and accommodating, super early breakfast is catering for all the people that need to be at the beach at 6 am for a Corcovado tour, clean rooms. We asked if we can park our car there after our stay during our overnight jungle trip and they made it happen.
Serenity & tranquility just outside of the hustle and bustle of Drake. I loved that the cabinas are built within nature and we could watch so many birds from our balcony. The team were lovely. And it was very convenient having dinner at the property.
Perfect location. Erick was very helpful during our stay, he met us at the beach after we arrived to Drake on the boat from Sierpe. The room was clean and with a perfect view of the bay, working a/c and mini fridge.
A hotel like in paradise, here you can relax away from crowded tourist places. The staff is extremely nice and friendly. For me one of the most beautiful places in Drake Bay. I will definitely come back.
