A good part of the promenade of Cadiz corresponds to the so-called new area of the city, with around 3 square kilometers and inhabited by more than 50,000 people. This neighborhood is located next to the wall of Puerta Tierra and is bathed by the beautiful beach of Santa María del Mar, a small beach, protected by two stone dykes that are responsible for giving it the shape of a shell.
