This municipality is located in the northwest of Tenerife, where it occupies an area of 18.36 km2. The landscape of La Victoria de Acentejo is rural and agricultural, with a predominance of cereal crops, banana plantations and vineyards: the wine production of the region is one of the most important in the north of the island, under the Tacoronte-Acentejo denomination. The municipality is named after the second battle of Acentejo, in which the conquistadors defeated the Guanches, an event that marked the end of the conquest of the Canary Islands. In gratitude for the success in this battle, Alonso Fernández de Lugo had a chapel dedicated to Nuestra Señora de la Victoria built, which was replaced by a more solid temple in 1578. Shortly afterwards, it became an area with a large population, which was divided into hamlets and subsisted thanks to agriculture and livestock farming, which has lost its importance today. In the municipality there is a long tradition of craftsmanship in the production of pottery and fretwork, almost always carried out by women, and in the making of the popular Victorieras chairs.
