Our gite is in the secluded and very pretty Hamlet of La Borderie. Breesfalt is an ideal resting place to enjoy the serene surrounds of the Limousin, based in Haute Vienne near the border with the Dordogne and the Charente. A quiet place to relax and unwind. An open plan space, including double bed (there is a sofa bed available within the space that can be used for a child) seating area, kitchen area. Separate room with shower and wc. Kitchen area with table, oven, hob, microwave, fridge. Outside is a private garden. Free wifi, French and English TV. Ideal area for walks, cycling, fishing and golf. Local lakes for swimming. Only 50 minutes from Limoges Airport. Approx 5.5 hrs from Caen ferry terminal. You can enjoy trips out to the spectacular surrounding countryside, chateaux and the swimming lakes and beauty spots to be found locally. Places of interest include The Roman Baths at Cassinomagus, the town of Brantome. The village of Oradour-sur-Glane is 1hr drive, the village was destroyed in 1944 by military forces of Nazi Germany, it has been maintained as a permanent memorial to the massacre. On Wednesday mornings the nearby town of Piegut hold a weekly market.

I moved to here in June 2020 and absolutely love it! Beautiful area, wonderful scenery all around, some lovely lakes for swimming close by. I am now running my own gite here too, as did the owners before me. I am very happy here, meeting and making new friends and enjoying my amazing new life ..... I decided to rename the gite from that used by previous owners. It is now known as “Breesfalt”. Not very French I know, but having shown and bred Scottish Deerhounds since the mid 1980s under the Affix of Breesfalt, meaning any Scottish Deerhound owned or bred by me would have this name within their registered Kennel Club name, i.e. Breesfalt Jasper, Ardneish Oberon to Breesfalt etc. I have named the gite “Breesfalt” in their memory. La Borderie is a beautiful and peaceful Hamlet, wildlife surrounds you, total tranquility. A wealth of lizards, birds and butterflies. The most wonderful expanse of stars to watch in the night sky. A car is required as we are approx 5km from our local town, Saint Mathieu, with all its amenities, supermarket, butchers, bakers. Washing machine facilities available at the supermarket. Larger supermarkets and more shops at Nontron, Rochechuart, St Junien. Lakes nearby at St Mathieu and St Estephe are a pleasant walk, take a picnic even. The lakes of the Charente are within reach, there is a lovely walk round the lake by Massignac. Or go canoeing near Montbron, or one of the many other canoe sites on offer. The Roman Ruins of Cassinomagus near Chassenon are well worth a visit if you are interested. The memorial village of Oradour-sur-Glane which was destroyed in 1944 by the military forces of Nazi Germany. A new village was rebuilt next to the original village. However the original village has been maintained as a permanent memorial to the massacre and is worth a visit.
