Les Baux is right in the heart of Provence, ideally positioned for short excursions and day trips. A short distance away and well worth a visit are the magnificent ruins of the medieval château and the world-famous Carriere des Lumieres sound and light show. The beautiful winding walk through the ancient village to the promontory passes by many tempting boutiques. Behind Les Baux in the Val d’Enfer is the five-star hotel and restaurant L’Oustau de Baumanière where you can go for an aperitif. The nearby town of Arles hosts a world-class international photography festival every Summer, with hundreds of galleries, performance spaces and pop-up restaurants, medieval ruins and a Roman coliseum. Avignon has an important theater festival and the fabulous Palais des Papes. The Mediterranean and the Camargue are less than an hour's drive, Marseille just over an hour.
