We are a family of 4 who live in East London, but love escaping whenever we can to Whitstable. Coming from the city, we love that Whitstable has all the amenities we take for granted at home, but also the beach, sea and lots of fresh air! Whitstable is famous for its local seafood, especially oysters, which are brought in daily into the harbour from a small fleet of fishing boats and sold in the fish market. There are many restaurants in town which also cater for vegetarians as well as meat lovers. The town has an award winning independent high street with its eclectic mix of shops from butchers, delicatessens, coffee shops, gift shops and art galleries. The beach is a couple of minutes walk from the cottage and offers a lovely walk along the coast to Tankerton and beyond. Cycling is also excellent with a great ride to Canterbury along the Crab and Winkle Way, a former railway line. You don't need a car as the cottage is so central, but you can hire bikes in town and there are regular buses to Canterbury as well as the train to Margate.
