Castle Archdale country park offers horse riding, great walks and a war time museum and coffee shop, while in the nearby town of Irvinestown there is a ten-pin bowling alley. Fishing opportunities and boat hire are available from many local establishments. The Fermanagh Lakelands region not only provides visitors with spectacular scenery, but is also steeped in history and heritage, with ancient monasteries, round towers, Plantation castles and National Trust stately properties to visit. It offers an impressive range of outdoor activities, especially water sports such as boating, sailing, wind surfing, water-skiing, and is excellent for fishing, cycling and walking. Other activities include potholing, climbing, horse-riding, golf and flying. The ancient County town of Enniskillen, about 25 minutes' drive, has a good range of shops, restaurants and pubs. It also has a cinema, the Ardowan Theatre, a Sports Leisure centre and the Enniskillen Castle Museum. It is a good place to catch a boat trip to one of the nearby islands. In addition, Portinode is within 25 minutes' drive of the dramatic coastline of County Donegal, with its unspoilt, sandy beaches and Atlantic rollers, great for surfing enthusiasts. The Water World Centre at Bundoran offers a fun family alternative to the beach.
