A short drive brings you to Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, 6 miles away, where the only east coast offshore sculptures can be seen. There is also a Maritime Centre, sandy beach and lifeboat house. Amble, only 7 miles away, is reputedly the friendliest port, which lies further up the coast and boasts a thriving Sunday market and some lovely eateries. An easy drive takes you onto the Heritage Coastal Route, peppered with friendly villages and castles, including the spectacular Bamburgh Castle.
