Holly Cottage is within a short walking distance of both Bowness and Windermere villages, Beatrix Potter museum and the lake. Sleeping up to 4, there is a spacious master bedroom and the second bedroom for 2 people can made up as twin beds or a small superking bed, giving guests flexibility. There is bathroom with a walk in shower and a separate toilet.
On the ground floor there is a spacious cosy open plan living and dining room with woodburning stove and flat screen television. Games, books and magazines are available for guests. The dining room has a dining table with seating for 4. The fitted kitchen has an electric hob and cooker, dishwasher, fridge, there is a freezer and washer dryer in the utility area off the kitchen. Patio doors open out from the dining area to a traditional Lakeland cottage courtyard garden which is perfect for al fresco dining where you can relax and enjoy the sunshine over morning coffee or a glass of wine at the end of the day.
If you're looking for a spacious but characterful Lakeland cottage then this is the place for you. A 5-10 minute walk takes you into Bowness village which has a wonderful array of bars, cafes, delis, shops and restaurants. You can grab an ice cream or feed the ducks at the lakeshore. You can take a ride to on the famous steamer to Lakeside and visit the Aquarium of the Lakes, Haverthwaite railway or sail to Ambleside at the northern end of the lake. There is a wide variety of self hire motor boats allowing you to explore the lake at your own speed. You can also take a car to Ferry Nab where you can take the car ferry over to Hawkshead on the other side of the lake. There are lots of walking routes and cycle ways accessible from the cottage, not least of which the Dalesway.
I am passionate about the Lakeland Fells, loving the outdoors enjoying walking, cycling and a bit of wild swimming. Whether you are here to relax and soak up the scenery or to get out there to conquer a few of the Wainwrights this is the place to be. Bowness has a wide range of restaurants , cafes and pubs providing an array of Thai , Chinese, Italian, Indian and Modern British food along with traditional pub food. It boasts a cinema 5 minutes walk away, the Old Laundry Theatre, the World of Beatrix Potter museum and Windermere Jetty museum. Bowness village has a host of individual shops along with CoOp and Tesco Express supermarkets, Sainsburys Local and Booths supermarkets are a 5 minute drive away in Windermere. Going out for an evening or a lunch is just a short stroll from Holly Cottage.
You can walk into Bowness and catch one of the steamers across Lake Windermere taking you to the Lakes Aquarium, the Haverthwaite steam railway and the Motor Museum. You can hire self drive motor boats for an afternoon of fun on the lake or if you feel more adventurous kayak, canoes and paddle boards can be hired at Lakes Leisure at Millerground, a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk away. Take the ferry across the lake at Ferry Nab and walk or cycle along the shores of the lake to Wray Castle which has an adventure playground, cafe and historic castle where Beatrix Potter came to holiday in the Lake District. Brockhole visitor centre is a 10 minute drive away where you can have an aerial adventure at Tree Top Trek or bounce through the trees on the Tree Top nets.
If you are feeling more energetic walks across the Dales Way, Orrest Head, Sheriffs Wood, Post Knott, Biskey Howe, School Knott, Brantfell and a variety of cycle routes are all accessible without a car . Holly Cottage is in a prime location as a base to explore the wider Lakeland Fells.
Hill Top Farm, Holker Hall , Grizedale, Wray Castle, Fell Foot Park, Sizeragh Castle, Blackwell Arts and Crafts House are all a short drive away .
If you want to take a break from driving there is a bus stop at the end of Beresford Road with 555 and 599 buses taking you to Ambleside, Grasmere, Keswick etc.
