The hamlet of Rocombe lies close to the village of Uplyme which offers plenty of amenities including The Talbot Inn village pub, cricket club, tennis courts, petrol station and post office, stocking a good supply of locally sourced bread, wine, beer and cider. A picturesque 30-minute riverside walk takes you into Lyme Regis which lies in Lyme Bay on the English Channel at the Dorset and Devon border. It is nicknamed 'The Pearl of Dorset' and is noted for the fossils found in the cliffs and beaches, which are part of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site. The rocks along the Jurassic Coast, record 185 million years of the Earth's history. To find out what makes it such a spectacular and unique World Heritage Site, choose one of the many walks on offer along the coast. There are numerous places to visit within the area Dinosaurland Fossil Museum, Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium, and Lyme Regis Nature Museum to name a few. Lyme Regis Golf course is within easy reach and welcomes visitors of all abilities. Seaton Tram Railway operates several events throughout the year and is within easy distance. Forde Abbey Park and Gardens along with Bicton Park Botanical Gardens are a lovely day out for all the family. Discover Hardy Country and walk the Hardy Trail. Less than four miles from Uplyme lies the market town Axminster, built on a hill overlooking the River Axe, it is filled with traditional charm and character and has excellent rail links to London and Exeter. Plan a day out to nearby West Bay, also known as Bridport Harbour, surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful coast and countryside.
