North Kelvinside is a charming residential district in upper-left corner of Glasgow which is the 1st most populated city of Scotland, the 3rd most populated in the United-Kingdom, and the 27th most populated in Europe. North Kelvin is known for being quiet and tranquil, despite its central location. It shares the same postcode (G20) as the predominantly industrious and working-class area of Maryhill but it is markedly different socially and architecturally. Positioned on the north bank of the River Kelvin, the housing consists mainly of tenement-style apartments, although there are also some grander villa-type buildings, converted Victorian townhouses, pre-industrial cottages and a small, well-maintained ex-council estates. The red sandstone façades and two-and-a-half storey windows of the former Shakespeare Street School are arguably some of the most recognisable features with North Kelvin’s building estates. There are many bars, restaurants, gyms, and shops around.
