Wareham offers many family style events and is perfectly placed for discovering the Purbeck coastline and dramatic seascapes of the Jurassic Coast. Mast Cottage has a great location near the quayside within the Saxon walled town. Everything that the town has to offer is just a short walk from the property including a range of restaurants, cafes, bars and a weekly market. From the Quay you can take boat trips to Poole and Brownsea Island which is inhabited by Red Squirrels, or hire a boat to explore the River Frome at your leisure. In West Street there is Dorset’s oldest independent cinema. The market town of Wareham is the gateway to the lovely Isle of Purbeck, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a World Heritage Site. Purbeck owes its majestic scenery to the huge geological variation across the region. From the chalk cliffs of Lulworth Cove and Worbarrow Bay in the wet, the coastline marches east in a series of bays and wonderful cliffs forming the renowned Jurassic coast. Kimmeridge and Chapmans Pool have fossil-bearing shales, St Aldhelms Head is a limestone promontory with Dancing Ledge and Winspit further east. Then the coastline turns north round Durlston Head and into the sandy bay of Swanage. Continuing north you reach the chalk stacks of Old Harry’s Rocks and then the wonderful sandy beaches of Studland and Shell Bay. Inland the villages of Corfe Castle, Worth Matravers, Kingston and Langton Matravers have great character and plenty of tea shops and pubs to visit.
