Christchurch, a picturesque town in Dorset, is at the mouth of a superb natural harbour formed by the confluence of the Rivers Stour and Avon. The town centre has many interesting stores and restaurants, and the 11th-century castle ruins and the splendid Medieval priory (the longest parish church in the country) are all must-sees. Spend the day at one of the area's beautiful sandy beaches, and then ride the ferry from Mudeford Quay across the harbour to the sandbank with the brightly painted beach cabins. You could also visit the Southborne beach, which connects to Boscombe and then Bournemouth through a promenade.
