The Lavender Shack is only a few minutes walk in to the village of Broome, which has a dog friendly pub The Artichoke, and equidistant is the village shop in Ditchingham, also walkable. In the next village, Kirby Cane, is the fantastic Italian bar and restaurant, The Olive Tree. Just a few minutes in the car are the unspoilt market towns of Bungay, with its historic castle remains and Beccles, with its market square and winding streets nestled by the River Waveney, which makes it a gateway to the Broads, where you can hire boats for an excellent day out. In both towns you'll find quirky independent shops, restaurants, cafes and delis as well as a host of community events, festivals and entertainment held throughout the year. There are also great canoe and paddle board hiring facilities straight on to the River Waveney at either Three Rivers, Geldeston or Outney Meadow, Bungay. Locally to the Lavender Shack you'll find Fen Dairy, where you can pop into their funky cow-print shed at the farm and fill your milk bottle from the UK’s first raw milk vending machine. You can also peer through the windows of the cheese and butter making rooms or watch the cows out in the fields, enjoying the grass.
