Sway village itself is a quaint village and dates from Anglo-Saxon times, being listed four times in the Domesday Book of 1086. The village is best known for Sway Tower, also known locally as Peterson’s Folly. Built in the late 19th century by the eccentric Judge Peterson, the 220-foot-tall tower is built entirely of concrete and was influenced by Peterson’s visits to India. Even today Sway Tower remains the tallest structure built out of non-reinforced concrete.
