Indonesia’s capital, sprawling Jakarta has hurtled into the 21st century at a startling rate. Rapidly expanding, it is an eclectic mix of cultures with an electric clubbing scene including the EX at Plaza Indonesia mall and those near Blok M mall, popular with expats. Jakarta shopping is great, with modern malls all over, interspersed with traditional markets, some underground.
Thousands of Jakarta restaurants and cheap street food offer many choices. Little Japan is best for sushi (and karaoke), while colourful Chinatown has fantastic dim sum. Buzzing around all are bajaj, Indonesia’s equivalent of tuk-tuks.
The main Jakarta sights include Monas National Monument in green Merdeka square. Spectacularly lit at night, it has a deck with fantastic city views. Opposite is the presidential palace, patrolled by the national guard. The oldest part is Batavia – the city’s Dutch Colonial name – and is home to the Jakarta History Museum.
Away from the bustle is Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, a suburban park celebrating Indonesia’s rich culture through museums, dance and film, centred around a large lake with Indonesia-shaped islands. Ancol Dream Park also features waterparks, beaches and amusement rides.
Traffic can be manic, so leave time after checking out of your Booking.com accommodation in Jakarta to get to Soekarno Hatta or Halim Perdanakusuma Airport.
Chinatown, Kota Tua, the National Monument and shopping...
Chinatown, Kota Tua, the National Monument and shopping malls especially in Kelapa Gading are well worth a visit. Apart from that, there is really nothing else to see and do within the city. I do recommend getting a taxi to Halim Station and taking a journey on the "Whoosh" high speed train to Bandung and have a look around. Bandung is well worth a visit for shopping, Braga Street, Jalan Asia-Africa and Gedung Sate.
One has to be careful when choosing a place to eat. Street food is full of risk - despite it being cheap. I ate Sio-may from a hawker and had diarrhoea for 4 days. Restaurants and food outlets in hotels and malls are the safest, along with any other clean, well known outlets.
Travelling in Jakarta itself is a nightmare. Traffic jams and delays make a relatively short distance journey, take a very long time. There are plenty of taxis and gojek - motorcycle taxis.
The air quality in the city is apallingly bad. As with my daughter, first came the sore throat, then the persistent dry cough, then the phlegm on the lungs and the coughing throughout the night. The air quality in the city is so bad, it constitutes a health hazard. Any rivers and streams are also heavily polluted - they look disgusting.
They proliferation of beggars and people looking for money especially from European tourists becomes irritating as it can easily turn into an aggressive situation. It's better not to walk anywhere.
Local attitude toward European/Australian/NZ tourists (in fact any white skin tourists) appears on the surface to be one of mild annoyance or in cases aggression. We were shouted at in a shopping mall to go home - very hurtful and embarrassing. My daughter who is married to an Indonesian regularly receives abuse. It seems a significant number of people resent outsiders and those who cannot speak their language.
All in all, we will never return to Jakarta.

Jakarta is very big and not much to see. Other than high buildings in south which is not really my interest. I managed to save my trip by going to north of Jakarta and visit fishermen. I can though recommend the city if you are for shopping and friendly people

I saw a different side to Jakarta this trip as I had a day to do non-work related stuff. Found some amazing independent coffee bars and had an amazing dinner at Le Quartier, a French restaurant with excellent steaks. Definitely recommended for a visit. The only major downside is the traffic which is absolutely horrendous. Pick an area you want to explore and stay around there. I stayed a night in a lovely boutique hotel called the Gunawarman. Highly recommended.

Jakarta, the business city where you can have a choice of various restaurants in malls and several areas and batik at Thamrin City. The USA Cultural Centre is on the third floor of Pacific Place mall and offers a lot of free events.
I live south of the southern border of Jakarta, so I visit the city a lot. I only stayed at a hotel because I had two events going on in an area and I needed a place to do my powernaps (it would be too far to go home to do the naps).
Jakarta is a business city with interesting places to eat, for example jalan Agus Salim (jalan Sabang) in central Jakarta or jalan Cipete Raya in South Jakarta. The malls also offer a wide range of restaurants.
As for tourism, I like the old city (TransJakarta bus corridor 1). For green lungs I would suggest Ragunan (TransJakarta bus corridor 6) which is also the home of the Zoo. I like the area of Jalan Wahid Hasyim that offiers a wide range of hotels.
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah is a nice open air museum with sample of traditional buildings of almost all provinces of Indonesia, so very nice to take pictures.
Just beware of traffic jams and the odd/even number plate system (ganjil/genap) that is valid from 6-10 am and 4-9 pm in several main streets. We usually don't say, how far is it, but how long will it take me to get there.
The onlline hailing system Gojek or Grab is very useful to have.
If you have to be in Jakarta, go for the food or shopping. If not, better go to Yogja or Bali

If you have a personal-click, if you do need to be there, or if you have things to do its a very interesting city no doubt, If it is only for holiday fly away as soon as possible. Try any other Airport to enter Indonesia and start from there.
I love jakarta! The smell, the people, the vibs and the life and humor. I can't help it I have a personal click and come back over and over again. But I will never promote Jakarta.

It's always interesting to see a nation's capital — but...
It's always interesting to see a nation's capital — but other than that, there's not much to be said for Jakarta. The old city is a bit grim – must likely because the whole city is literally sinking, in particular the waterfront region. There are slums all over the place — as we found out when we accidentally walked into a very dangerous one while searching for a Sim card. We planned for a 48 hour layover just to get a sense for the place, and it was 40 hours too long.
The main enjoyable thing is going to malls. Personally as a European, mall culture isn't really something that's huge where I'm from and I wouldn't normally advocate it. In Jakarta it's a huge part of the culture of the middle class (there's a great Guardian article on the topic) and they're worth seeing. Also because they're pretty much the only enjoyable thing we found to do there.
The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was delicious. They serve a big variety of dishes from eggs, toast, beans until fried rice and noodles. They have a nice pool and spa area to relax. The room was very clean and comfortable. We got an upgrade to the club room located in the upper floor where we had a nice view of the city. The piano player in the lobby is a nice extra. The hotel is located in the center of Jakarta. 10 min by car to the Grand Indonesia (mall). Short drive to the National Monument.
We came to the basketball World cup, so we choose this hotel because it is close to Indonesia Arena. And it was good choise. Stay was very comfortable - staff was friendly and helpful, rooms are clean, kitchen is pretty well equipped. Also we liked infinity pool and sauna. Also we liked dining options around hotel - especially local food restaurant Nirmala (you can find it on google maps) and Chucks Cattle - steak house on main street in front of hotel. Also close is Pizza Hut, BarBurger (local burger)
The staff was extremely helpful. They coached us through the process of getting an indonesian Simcard at the nearby mall and helped us print our flight tickets.
The rooftop terrace was also very nice. The hotel is located in a nice and busy neigbourhood with lots of small shops and warungs. It is also pretty close to some bigger malls where you could always catch a legitimate blue bird taxi to the city center.
Our driver had trouble finding the location, but the neigbours were very helpful.
THE dirtiest hotel I been on they lie to people the hotel bed sheet are so disgusting feels like someone pee on them they change it 3 times and everytime he bring even worse sheet don't go there they fool people I swear all hotels like this in Indonesia they look good on picture when you arrive you see stuff you feel like you wanna throw up! Go go at all I never comment on any hotel reviews before but this hotel is mess up !
The location was perfect for us. The rooms were spacious and the beds were so comfortable. The hotel is connected to Plaza Indonesia and across the street from Grand Indonesia, The breakfast buffet was excellent. The restaurant staff was very accommodative to provide us a complimentary slice of cake for a birthday surprise for my daughter during breakfast. The Christmas decorations were beautiful.
In the confusion and the trafic jam of Jakarta, this is a superb place to relax.
The facilities are located in a inner side of the hotel and this allows you to stay isolated of the noise of the city.
The swimming pool is huge and the hotel has also a nice gym.
The restaurant at ground zero is serving every day from 11am to 10pm and has an excellent Indonesian cuisine.
The breakfast is also superb.
I especially enjoyed the fact that the hotel allowed me to bring my furry pet friend and keep him in my room unlike other hotels in Jakarta or Indonesia, most of which don't allow travelers with pets. There was only a small pet deposit fee that is typically being refunded upon check-out. All hotel staff knew about my pet and provided everything we needed to feel well accommodated in their space.
I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights on the 11th floor and the staff were friendly, service were excellent. The room was absolutely clean and comfortable. Bathroom was spotless. And not to forget the room service are so polite and friendly.
They are also very strict about covid-19 protocol, which is amazing! Even the room cleaning service were in full APD. 5 stars for that!
Breakfast is so so only. Nothing to shout about.
Only positive about this hotel is it located near Grand Indonesia mall ie walking distance. However, it is very challenging to walk to/from Grand Indonesia Mall because of the narrow lane with motorcycles/cars and heavy traffic at this area.
The location of the hotel was goad. Near public transportation and walking distance to BNI station (train direct to the airport). Walking distance to Jalan Sudirman and Plaza Indonesia. Shower was good ang very good wifi. Huge flat TV for enjoy your Qatar World Cup 2022
The staff is very kind. I appreciated the free mineral water in the corridor, the safe in the room. Cleaning was done every day without have been disturbed. Hot water in the bath. Tv ok. Very good hotel compare to many others in Indonesia for that range of price.
I usually go to luxury resort around the world
This ruffles hotel have the best of best employee i have ever deal with
From first day to last minute they are amazing
Hotel is super amazing super clean i enjoy every minute there
Thank you ruffles
Room very clean and tidy. Brand new building and the design are so nice and comfort. I really like to stay here. After few times stay in different hotel around Tanah Abang, the Juno is the best one for that price. I'm highly recommended.
The location of the hotel is next to Kota district in Jakarta( former colonial area of Jakarta). There are many places to visit from Kota( museum, City hall , restaurant). A good place to start your trip in Indonesia.
We enjoyed our stay in Jakarta thanks to this hotel, everything was just on point! Clean, professional staff, amazing breakfast, and swimming pool. We would definitely go back if travel to Indonesia once again!
Hotel location is in central Jakarta and within walking distance to the Bank Indonesia (the Central Bank). Rooms are spacious and clean although a bit oudated. Beds are comfy. The staff are polite and adept.
The staff are brilliant, really freindly well run hotel. Nothing to complain about. I left my phone behind and I had it back in an hour. Also the Chinese reaturant is one of the best I have ever eaten in.
