Still untouched by any roads, far from the madding crowd, noises and pollutions of the cities, perched above the banks of Assi ganga river, lies the village of Agoda tucked inside the lap of Garhwal Himalayas at a height of 2130 meters above sea level. It is the last village enroute Dodital which is a hike of 16 km form Agoda. Our homestay is located towards the upper end of the village. Snow clad lofty mountains, mighty Himalayas, chirping of birds all around, sightings of the majestic Monal birds, traditional Garhwali culture, unspoilt simple life of remote Himalayan villages, step farming on the laps of Himalaya, Starry Nights are only few of the encapsulated bits of the experience of staying in Solitude Homestay at Agoda. The true gem of the experience is the people around here, their heart-warming hospitality, amicable nature, and ever smiling faces against all odds of the tough day to day life of a Himalayan village. To be a part of their daily chores, listening to the numerous stories of first hand experiences of living in harmony with the Himalayan wildlife will make your stay an unforgettable moment.

To introduce myself, Kamal Singh Panwar, the owner of the homestay, is a certified mountaineer cum trek guide (Advanced and Basic Mountaineering course from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi) with an experience of more than 10 years. I have conducted guided treks in Indian Himalaya across Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Sikkim. Among the treks and expeditions I have conducted are Auden’s Col, Lamkhaga Pass, Rupin Pass, Kedartal, Chaukhamba Col, Kamet Expedition Till Camp 3 and Camp 4 (both times as HAP), Jogin Peak 1 and Peak 3, Rudugaira Peak, Gangotri 3 Peak, Bhagirathi 2 peak, Mt. Thelu , Dhumdharkandi Trek, Black Peak till summit camp, Arwa Col, Sahsrutal, Bomsaru Khal, Har ki Dun, Dodital, Dayara Bugyal, KR-5 peak, Yunam peak, Miyar Valley, Borasu Pass, Goechala Pass etc.

It is a homestay in an authentic Himalayan village, where we stay with our family. Most of the times someone from our family will be there available for the guests. It will be an enjoyable stay here for you getting to know the life and around, observing the laid back space. Without any mobile connectivity (Only Idea connectivity is there. In case of need we have a cell phone with basic internet connectivity. But you sure will enjoy the digital detoxification for few days of your stay here!) it’s an opportunity to enjoy nature at its best in a leisurely manner. A small library is also maintained in our homestay. It may not be a lavish place to stay on. If you are looking for the routine touristy experience please do not venture into Agoda. The experience would be a humble, down-to-earth stay alongside the authentic Garhwali village life. Dehradun/Rishikesh/Haridwar to Uttarkashi by Bus/ Shared Car/ Rented Car.
