Santa Margherita is situated in the heart of the sestiere (district) Dorsoduro on the route for San Marco square via Accademia – halfway in between Piazzale Roma and the Accademia bridge – and it is one of the oldest and most vibrant areas of Venice. Next to the 18th century neoclassical church, we find the famous “Ponte dei Pugni” (literally translated as the Bridge of Fists), used as a mean to solve the town disputes; two teams would fist-fight on the bridge and the loser would eventually end up in the water.
