The treasure of Salama House is our distinctive Balinese-style garden lounge and airy treehouse yoga deck overlooking a sparkling pool set among lush plants. Take a refreshing swim, read your favourite book, wake up to sunrise yoga or relax with a breezy sundowner. You'll also love our commitment to nature; we're fully solar, harvest our precious rainwater, recycle and compost all our food waste. You'll be right at home in the cottage. It comes tastefully furnished with everything you need for a relaxing stay; comfy patio and lounge, fully equipped kitchen and dining area, and thoughtful homely touches, such as a picnic hamper, tree swing, books and board games. For those who cant avoid it, we're fully set up for remote working, complete with an office, wide-screen monitor, extension cables and WiFi throughout. You'll quickly discover that we've been adopted by three delightful kittens (so you'll need to love pets!). And you'll also find plenty of parking, a safe neighbourhood and wonderful neighbours. It will feel a real home (or office) away from home. Karibu! Here's a couple of extra things to note: 1. We don't allow pets (as they might scare the kitties) 2. Our showers don't use hot water (Watamu is very warm!) 3. The main and guest bedrooms have A/C at a small extra fee 4. The office / single bedroom does not have A/C but does have ceiling and floor fans to ensure you stay cool.

We first fell in love with Watamu when we came to Kenya many years ago. For a couple who love exploring nature's wild places, we were captivated by its beaches, mangroves and timeless way of life. We're both passionate professionals working in community development and mental health - another reason we were drawn to peaceful Watamu. 'Salama' is Swahili for 'peace' and captures the essence of what we're trying to create for all who stay here: peace with the earth, the community and each other. A place to retreat, relax, unwind and play.

You'll love the location of Salama House... it's next to one of East Africa's loveliest beach towns! We love Watamu for its chilled vibe and idyllic location with everything you need to work and play. We're only minutes walk from the lovely South Watamu beach. It's one of Kenya's finest beaches for swimming, snorkelling, kitesurfing, paddle boarding or just building sand castles. Just walk ten minutes in the other direction, and you'll come to the magical Mida Creek, perfect for a sunset dhow cruise, a magical float through the mangroves, or early morning paddleboard. If you want a break from the water, then you're a short tuk tuk ride from sunset yoga, evening paddleball or a movie night under the stars at Temple Point. Grab a motorbike taxi to discover some fabulous cafes (head to the women-run F Cafe for coffee, Non-Solo for it's famous gelato or Naturalamente for yummy pastries.) For meals out, you have loads of wonderful options close by, with incredible pizza at Sunset Beach, fabulous sundowners at Pilli Pan, fresh seafood at Kobe, and the iconic Lichthouse for sunset drinks on the deck.
