Gouda water tower is one of the monumental remains of the Koninklijke Plateelfabriek Zuid-Holland (1898 to 1965). The beautiful tableware from "Plazuid" has long been the trend all over the world and you will find it in our small pantry. After the factory closed, the location and the various associated monumental buildings - which belong to the protected cityscape of Gouda - fell into disrepair. Redevelopment of the Koningshof area has given new life to this important part of historic Gouda.

Why have we stolen this tower in our hearts? Carla Goedhart; "Because of my love for historic Gouda buildings, I could not resist turning this playful turret into something beautiful". Mike Heerkens; "My grandfather Theo Steenwinkel has been a painter for a long time in front of the factory. We are happy and proud that we have been able to give this old water tower a second life as a residential tower."

From a plateel factory to a city quarter for families, that is the result of the transformation of the former factory site. If you walk through Koningshof, you will see children playing on the car-free streets and squares, neighborhoods appeal to each other and drink a cup of coffee together. The remains of the monumental factory site have been subtly incorporated into the new-urban buildings and are provided with a new purpose. The municipal monumental buildings on the Raam and the Bakery have been developed into residences and the National Monument "the Clay Barn" has been transformed into a trendy restaurant on the water. The monumental factory water tower from 1920 was a water reservoir for the fire brigade that increased the water pressure in the pipeline. The water tower can now be rented as the smallest residential tower in the Netherlands.
