"Duck Down House" is one of two modern brick units situated in a quiet neighbor hood with easy access to a well equipped food market just a three minute walk around the corner. Our homestay is warm and cosy, well appointed with new and modern furniture and has a much talked about, 'feels just like home' atmosphere and ambience. There is a range of brochures for a range of scenic adventures in the top drawer of the work station. We provide all the necessities for a pleasant and comfortable stay, outside furniture, washing machine, dryer, great internal locks, free Wi-fi and a garage to keep bikes and belongings safe and secure.

I am a retired born and bred South Westland boy, extremely proud of of my West Coast heritage and the district of Hokitika. My former professional career took me away from the Coast a number of years ago but I still have family and grand children residing in the town. I am a regular returnee and am 'home' at least five times a year to enjoy the great outdoors, ducks, golf and just being there. We enjoy our regular stay's at "Duck Down House" our home, and our sincere wish is, that you do too. Welcome to the West Coast.

Hokitika and the wider region of the West Coast has a wide ranging and diverse natural habitat which has something for everyone both the young and us older young people. Stroll around town and take a look at the greenstone carvers, glass blowers, gold shop, kiwi sanctuary, you can even see socks being made the way our grand parents made them to name a few of the craft places welcoming visitors. A must see on a fine sunny evening is a walk to the beach or drive to the Historic Sunset Point at the Hokitika River mouth to take in the stunning sunsets. Before you make it back, take a short drive North on the main highway and on the boundary coming into town, stop and look at the spectacular glow worms grotto..............all free of charge. Within a 30 minute drive you will find the renowned 'Tree Top Walk, Lakes Kaniere and Mahinapua, the Hokitika Gorge Walkway, the Mahinapua Walkway, in fact walk ways galore. Cycle trails in all directions. Visit the historic townships of Ross and Kumara, Shantytown and Greymouth to the north. All this and more in just 30 minutes. Remember, you are on the Coast, it's an adventure, go and explore.
