The apartment is located in a traditional Pombalino style building constructed just before the turn of the 20th Century - in actuality in 1898. The building is adorned with Portuguese tile and has many of the architectural features emblematic of the period - including worked ceilings, balconies and pine wood floors. The apartment is decorated with many items from the art deco period in Portugal. Some of my favorites being the glass pendent lights and some small furniture pieces. In addition to this, there are 32 - mostly handmade, mirrors throughout the apartment and quite a few plants as well. PLEASE NOTE: the bedrooms do not have external windows. This is very common in Lisbon due to buildings sharing lateral walls and also due to old buildings not having heat. ALSO NOTE: If you are renting one of the 3 available rooms - this is a SHARED apartment. There are several areas of the house that I would refer to as common areas (kitchen, living room, bathrooms). I was born in the North of Portugal but moved abroad as a child. I've recently returned to the country of my birth and bought and apartment not far from the city center. When I'm out of the country I rent out my whole apartment but when I'm in Lisbon I host travelers from all over the world. A neighborhood of contrasts, Arroios stands out from the other parishes of Lisbon for the multiculturalism of its people and places. Cradle of Amália, the greatest Portuguese fado singer of all time, and home to almost a hundred nationalities, Arroios is the largest parish in central Lisbon, though you can walk across it in half an hour. More than a neighborhood, it’s a world in itself, and its many impressive kilometers of streets are packed with open-air galleries, restaurants from all corners of the world, public services, cultural and sporting venues… New businesses sprout like mushrooms, living side by side with traditional commerce – if you can’t find it in Arroios, it’s probably coming soon.
