Cabanas is a former fishing village, about 5KM from the city of Tavira to the East side and only 15KMs from the Spanish border.<BR>It holds a little more than 1000 permanent residents, and its beautiful and clean beaches turn it into a popular tourist destination in the summer. This area was established as such in 1997.<BR><BR>The village structure is composed by a long line of low-rise houses, shops, bars and restaurants lining a very pretty raised promenade stretching from one end of the sea fronted village to the other and facing the Ria Formosa Nature Park.<BR>The coastline along this part of the eastern Algarve is calm and peaceful, with 11 KMs of extremely inviting fine white sandy beaches and very warm water. Dolphins will often visit the shallows in the warm summer months. The beach-lined coastal strip is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve, offering pleasant boat trips and the chance to observe the typical wetland flora and fauna and wild life, most particularly the water birds. <BR>Tavira Island along with Praia do Barril are stunningly attractive beache
