The Dormouse House is a 230-year-old house that has been meticulously renovated. We have retained the old charm of the house while also adding modern amenities to make your stay more comfortable and enjoyable. The house is built of local stone which keeps the climate in warm summer months pleasant. The house has one large room with a dining corner and one twin bed. There is also a tiled stove which host operate for you in periods of colder weather. For day-to-day use, we have installed IR pannels. There is a smaller bedroom with three single beds. Please note that one bed is shorter (175 cm) and appropriate for a child or a small adult. We have arranged a small modern kitchen corner in a room which in the past served as a kitchen. There you will find all necessary cooking amenities, a small induction cooker and a microwave. In the past houses did not have a bathroom but we built it about 40 years ago. It is small but functional and we provide all necessary amenities to the guests. In front of the house, there is a bench where you can enjoy the sunshine. On request, guests can also use a barbeque place under a large Linden tree about 100 meters away from the house.

Hello! I am Jana and I will be your host at the Dormouse House. This house has a special importance in my life. My grandfather bought the property more than 50 years ago. During my childhood, we had used the house as a weekend cottage. Many of my nicest childhood memories are linked to this place. I became interested in birds in my teenage years and later decided to study biology. The Dormouse House was my base during the final year of my study when I carried out research on birds at the Lake Cerknica. Nowadays, I live in a small village about 15 kilometres away. I run my own non-profit company and work as a nature conservation consultant and practitioner. Most of my work is connected with protected areas and invasive alien species. I am also a licenced local tourist guide. Naturally, I specialise in nature guiding and can take you on a nature trip.

The Dormouse House is situated in a small village above the seasonal Lake Cerknica. The lake is a large wetland area of international importance, famous for its flora and fauna. As a seasonal lake, the water level fluctuates seasonally. The lake forms after the rainy periods and is largely dry in summer. But the extensive wet meadows still flourish in life. From the house, you have many hiking opportunities. There are several marked trails and your host will provide directions. The house is also not far from several show caves (Cross Cave, Postojna Cave, Planina Cave, Škocjan Caves) where you can explore the spectacular underground world with a guide. From the Dormouse House, there is only about one hour drive to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. You can reach the Slovenian coast in a bit more than an hour's drive.
