Drury Plaza Hotel New Orleans, hotel in New Orleans

Located 1 mile from the New Orleans French Quarter, this hotel features an outdoor swimming pool and a whirlpool. Free Wi-Fi is also included.

Location was great. Just a few blocks from the craziness of Bourbon St. Also beside green street car to Garden district and Hop on Hop off bus. What made the holiday were the staff. From check in, we were warmly welcomed and that hospitality lasted throughout our stay. Every one of thier staff members would bend over backwards to accommodate you or just say hello when passing. It was truly exceptional. From Patrick at breakfast to Renaldo at reception, they always had time for us. I have stayed in top 5 star hotels that have not managed that level of hospitality. The drinks and evening snacks where of a very high standard, as was the breakfast. We were on a 3 week tour of different US States and staying in 6 different hotels, this was by far our favourite.

FAQs about hotels in New Orleans

Getting its Rhythm Back

The home of jazz, intriguing New Orleans evokes images of Louis Armstrong, wrought-iron balconies and mouth-watering Cajun cuisine. Louisiana’s largest city, in the heart of the Deep South, the ‘Big Easy’ is being regenerated in the wake of devastating hurricane Katrina.

One area relatively unscathed was Bourbon Street – where jazz saxophones ring out of traditional bars interspersed by others offering more colourful nightlife. There are several New Orleans hotels near Bourbon Street, spread around the French Quarter with its distinctive Creole architecture.

To the south is Jackson Square, dominated by the Disney-esque St Louis Cathedral. Horses and carts wait patiently by the square, and locals set up their stools and start playing catchy tunes. Just behind is the legendary Mississippi River whose waters are still plied by paddle steamers.

From the river you get great views of the CBD skyscrapers and beside them is the huge Louisiana Superdome sports venue. Booking.com has several hotels near the Superdome, including some on Canal Street – a historic road where streetcars and the famous New Orleans Mardi Gras carnival pass down.

In the northern suburbs is New Orleans City Park, one of the oldest US parks and larger than NYC’s Central Park. Waterways lining it flow into large Lake Pontchartrain bordered by a bayou – the typical wetlands of the state.

NOLA is a beautiful city with limitless potential.

NOLA is a beautiful city with limitless potential. The local talent is all over and the sound is so unique. I dont drink so I really enjoyed the coffee and sweets on decatur and on bourbon street. I enjoyed the bayou tour as well. I wanted to stay another morning or two just to get sweets and drink coffee while taking in the local talent. However my wife wanted to go. The smell of urine is overwhelming when entering french quaters from the homeless situation as well as when departing to get back to hotel. The homeless are right out front of 4 and 5 star hotels as well.

Find food and things to do away from Canal and Bourbon...

Find food and things to do away from Canal and Bourbon Street. The prices are ridiculous since it's a tourist area. There is so much more to New Orleans. We enjoyed Bianka Lounge, the Bee Spot restaurant (get there as early as possible), and swamp tours too! Cafe Beignet is over rated and if you've had a funnel cake then check this place off your bucket list without the visit. On another note Voodoo chicken (spicy) and Willie's Chicken were good!

The city is a little overrated with what they offer. We did the hop on hop off bus tour but nothing that "wowed" us and nowhere to really hop off to see anything. We ate at local eateries Mulate's and Mother's and found the food expensive but average. We rode both the green trolley and red trolley but again no "wow" factor. We tried to do the steam boat cruise but it's closed on Sundays. For a major tourist city we didn't understand this and it was disappointing. The casino was hopping as well as Bourbon Street. If you love to party and spend lots of money on food and drinks, this is your spot!

NOLA is full of culture, from the restaurants, famous Bourbon street, its history on slavery ( the plantations)we also get a chance to see life through the eyes of a slave rather than just what the plantation looked like, which was important to me. Last but not least it is where wonderful JAZZ music was born.

I went with my Husband and 12 year old daughter.

I went with my Husband and 12 year old daughter. We really enjoyed it! I have been to a lot of big cities, but New Orleans is pretty laid back. It looks like they are working hard to make the city more accommodating to tourists. Downtown was great! We did walk down Bourbon street which was definitely worse than expected, but the daughter got an eye opening experience. Every place we ate was amazing! We definitely will be back one day. We were on a pretty tight budget, so we did not pay for any tours or events. We mostly just walked or drove around.

Fantastic city, particularly for the insomnolent.

Fantastic city, particularly for the insomnolent. I couldn't have my fill of the French Quarter, Bourbon Street. The music in the nightclubs along Frenchmen Street was unmatched. Strongly recommend the Plantatio Tour, the Swamp Tour. The idea is to wander... and hopefully get lost... and then discover a bar.

I don’t think we could have chosen better location. Three blocks from the Bourbon Street this hotel provides excellent base for exploring French Quarter or Garden District by the St. Charles streetcar. In the very city center it provides a quiet shelter from the hassle of Bourbon street. Highly recommended.
