Beautiful, grand old hotel in the heart of Mont-Dore, perfectly located for walking around downtown. The breakfast was outstanding—eggs, pastries, hot oats, and more (French eggs really are superior!). Our room was lovely, with a full bed and a twin, ideal since I tend to twitch at night. Just note there’s no lift/elevator, which may matter for some travelers.

It was very easy to find and a stunning property steeped in history. The rooms were fascinating and we felt welcomed by Joseph and Ogen who were friendly and explained the history and restoration of the property which dates from 1260. The rooms that we stayed in had a modern shower bathroom between them and beautifully soft bathrobes and large towels were provided. We requested the evening meal and it was the best food we had eaten on our entire holiday, we were also asked for any dietary requests as well. Creatively prepared leek vinagrette opened the meal, local vegetables and deliciously moist cod for the main course and the meal finished with fresh strawberries and homemade Chantilly cream. They had a fully stocked bar which complemented the meal. It was a truly unique stay and would love to return when the weather would allow us to use the outdoor pool! We had breakfast the next day which consisted of fresh croissants and jam and Ogen also made some divine scrambled eggs with chives.

I never give a perfect 10 for any holiday location but this will be the exception. Heidi and Gunter are exceptional hosts - lovely genuine people who made our brief stay a wonderful experience. We ate on location both evenings and it was perfect - pizza on the second night from an ancient oven. We could only stay a couple of days - would love to return to this piece of paradise.
