The bath is amazing - like you have an Onsen. The shared lounge is stunning and cosy, the rooms are lovely and they are just great humans who are easy to connect with. Not to mention they live in an incredibly beautiful part of the world on the Nakasendo. Photos of the accommodation don’t do it justice.

We used Takayama as a base to explore the Japan Alps. The house was very comfortable, with all amenities and the parking space was very useful. Communication with the owner was always good. We would stay again!

Shiroyamakan is located right in front of a bus stop, next to the main street of the ghasso village, so the location is excellent. The owners are lovely and try their best to speak English and are open to talking via translator too. We arrived a bit late, but the owner waited for us and took us for a ride around the village, talked about important landmarks and took photos of us in the viewing spot overlooking the village. Ryokan has two new, beautiful private hot baths, so I was able to take one with my husband. Another highlight of the stay was dinner - I didn't expect it to be a two hour 10-course meal! Since there are only four rooms, staff is able to talk to each table and explain what is served. When it comes to the room, we stayed in a 150-years old traditional room with futons and an inside balcony. The room was clean, had AC and a small fridge, the atmosphere was excellent. Breakfast was smaller, but still beautifully served and delicious. After check out, hosts taken a picture of us in front of the hotel and let us store our bags inside until the afternoon. Everyone was so lovely, staying at Shiroyamakan was an amazing experience! I'd love to go back one day.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. The food and service were both amazing! Thank you so much. We had an amazing stay. The unit at the property features a bidet and a dressing room. The property offers quiet street views. This is an excellent property to stay in and feels like very recently renovated. Spotlessly clean, with all the facilities we needed. Cooking and laundry facilities are all new and easy to use with helpful English translations on the key buttons. The AC was very welcome given the time of year and very high temperatures. The location is only minutes walk from the older town streets with shops and places to eat. Also only about 5 minutes from a good supermarket, ideal if you want to do some ‘home’ cooking.

The accommodation offers a hot tub, free WiFi throughout the property and family rooms. We were lucky enough to be the only group that was booked during our stay, and it was exceptional. The house offered a little slice of what country life is like but still have the accessibility to a decent sized town. The Japanese garden was relaxing, and having a little family shine out back by the woods really made the property even more special. We took the tatami room and I was afraid that it might be uncomfortable, but it was some of the best sleep I had during our trip. If you plan to take a bus there, take the H02 or H03 (Hirayu s Hiohotaka line - stop H14) and walk about 10 minutes. He property itself has 3 rooms that the owner rents out, 2 tatami rooms and 1 western style room. There is a full kitchen downstairs, a bathtub, and a separate washroom, which was a nice touch since it allowed us to do our thing without having to wait for the toilet/shower. On our last night, we cooked a little meal and enjoyed it in the traditional dining rood.

Absolutely immaculate, due partially to it being brand new, but the craftsmanship is brilliantly executed. To say it exceeded our expectations is a massive understatement. It's very comfortable, private, clean, and well equipped. The location is nice since it's very close to everything, but also a little off the beaten path so you can escape the crowds. The route into the centre along the river is idyllic and such a treat. There's even a tiny playpark nearby for little ones, but it has seen better days. Highly recommended.

The products were fresh and you couldn’t make them more local : the mushrooms we had in our soup were taken directly from his garden. Moreover, the room were really cozy and comfy as well the sauna. I really recommend it if you want to see the Japanese countryside and enjoy a relaxing stay
