Hamabeno Ryouriyado Houraikan provides a hot tub and a public bath, as well as air-conditioned accommodation in Kamaishi, 1.3 km from Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium. The hotel is not large nor particularly luxurious, but it exudes a refined quality. The staff are very friendly and the service is excellent. The bathhouse — in terms of space, view, and water quality — is truly enjoyable. In the evening, we unexpectedly heard the okami (proprietress) share her personal experience with this hotel during the 3/11 tsunami, which was deeply moving. It gave us a deeper understanding of that disaster and became an unexpected highlight of our trip. We would love to visit again if we have the chance.

Providing city views, Appi Life is Beautiful in Hachimantai provides accommodation, a garden, a shared lounge, a terrace and a restaurant. Staff were great. Food was awesome. Room was very cozy. Ideal for skiing. Picked up from the train station in a blizzard, thank you.

Situated in Yahaba, 19 km from Morioka Station, Ogal Inn features accommodation with a shared lounge, free private parking and a restaurant. Super clean, simple and comfortable room plenty big for one. Wonderful friendly and helpful staff. Nice breakfast buffet for the price. 5 minutes from the station, and conbini and supermarket nearby. A couple restaurants in the same complex as well as a great crepe shop, a huge farmers market, and space to hang out outside. Only about 20 minutes to Morioka, but the train is every 30 min or so.

Providing city views, Appi Arts Color in Hachimantai provides accommodation, free bikes, a garden, a shared lounge, a restaurant and ski-to-door access. The design was very nice and cozy, place was clean, staff was friendly, breakfast served everyday and there was free shuttle service taking you to the breakfast and ski locations. Couldn’t ask for anything more. Owner Sano-San is very nice and involved and makes it a welcoming environment.

Featuring lake views, Hotel Shion is situated in Morioka and offers a wellness area with a hot tub and a public bath. Beautiful quiet location by the lake easy to get to from Morioka. Very clean well maintained facilities including several beautiful onsens. The staff was kind and accommodating despite my very limited Japanese language understanding. I loved the view of the lake and Mount Iwate from my room.
