J-Hoppers Kumano Yunomine Guesthouse is situated in Hongu, a 10-minute drive away or a 70-minute walk on the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Route from Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine. The hostel was fantastic. We rented a tatami room, which was spotless, very comfortable and with a really nice view. The onsen was amazing, we absolutely loved it. Everything was clean, there were snacks, eggs to boil in the onsens in town and all cooking and serving tools to eat them afterwards. The bathrooms were incredibly clean. This was our favourite stay along the Kumano Kodo, despite being the cheapest.

Situated a 10-minute walk from lively Kawaramachi area, Kyomachiya Ryokan Sakura Urushitei offers Japanese-style accommodation with modern facilities and traditional design. Staff were super friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a pretty good location with lots of restaurants nearby. 10-12 mins walk from bus stop or train station which is reasonable. Shower was good and futon bed comfortable. There's a lounge area where you can have food and chat.

A 1000 year-old Buddhist temple, Shukubo Koya-san Eko-in offers Japanese-style accommodation, a beautiful garden and free WiFi. Staying at Eko-in was an exceptional and unforgettable experience. I highly recommend booking the Okunoin cemetery night tour—it was both atmospheric and deeply moving. The meals are fully vegetarian and beautifully presented. If you're not a fan of tofu, some of the dinner dishes might not be to your taste—but that, too, is part of the cultural and spiritual experience. I was initially anxious about sleeping on a traditional futon, but it turned out to be surprisingly comfortable and added to the overall sense of authenticity. A truly unique stay.

The owner is super nice. Room was clean and was equipped with everything we needed during our stay. There is 7/11 nearby. Free breakfast is included in cafe next door. It's simple but tasty. There was also projector in the room which was a nice add on. Owner also helped us with laundry which was unexpected and very nice. Overall we had a nice stay and would book again.

Bed was very comfortable and the location was excellent. Even though it was on a busy corner, the room was very quiet and soundproofed. One of the best hotels we have stayed at during our trip in Japan!

The breakfast service was a highlight of our stay! The beautiful decor, authentic experience with the irori bbq made in front of you was incredible. Everything was delicious, with strong attention to detail giving you a humble luxury that feels typically Japanese. The room was simply gorgeous and the bed incredibly comfortable. The complementary items (late night soba, stocked fridge) made it even more special and intentional.
