The staff were brilliant and very friendly despite a language barrier with some, shuttling me to and from the station and helping me book a dinner reservation separate from my room booking. The room was as described but that's not a negative, it was a great experience with the footbath and private onsen. Recommend the dinner highly for a local kaiseki offering in a private room.

We rarely return to the same hotel, even if we had a good experience, but we’d happily come back to Tamonkan every year! This time, we rented a car, which made it even more convenient to explore the beautiful mountains and nearby cities. Tamonkan also offers free parking right across from the ryokan. The owners are incredibly kind and are always happy to provide information and recommendations for local attractions and shops where you can buy regional products. And, of course, the breakfast and dinner are super healthy, fresh, and delicious. We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights, and although the ryokan was fully booked on some nights, it was always quiet and relaxing. I never had to share the spacious, comfortable bath and shower room with any other guests. I really enjoyed my stay and felt truly relaxed. See you again next year!

The owner Ryo is the nicest guy. Put "Apple Onsen Yado Inn" into google maps if you have trouble using Japanese characters. Short walk from the bus terminal. Bless the staff - they carried my heavy bag up to the third floor for me when I checked in. It's an older Japanese style inn; I personally love to sleep on futons so I requested one for my room. The room had everything I needed and was warm during the freezing January temperatures. Clean shared bathrooms, fridge and water stations in the hallways. There is ski/snowboard rental in the building which cost around $35 USD per day in January 2026. Ryo was great adjusting the bindings and also giving me his favorite route of the mountain which he showed me on a map. Later, I ate at their restaurant Ringo Dining where I had amazing soup curry. They also run a food truck outside serving beers and yakitori. Enjoyed the hot springs after a long day of skiing. It was a very welcoming place and exactly what I hoped to find in the mountains. I will come back here!

The atmosphere was superb, very helpful and kind staff! The food was also brilliant, I also used their sauna room which was very nice too and very reasonably priced. Overall, wonderful for the price. The view from the room of the lake was unbelievable as well.
