For us, this was much the best area of Granada. If you can manage the steep steps up through the Old Town towards the Alhambra, hive off down some of the little streets and soak up the fabulous views, quaint houses, lovely architecture and atmosphere. Avoid the 'tourist traps' who advertise Flamenco shows and find some authentic musicians who play in tiny clubs like El Tabanco instead.
Picturesque white walled alleyways and small streets. Go to the Mirador San Nicolas for the views of the Alhambra and then wander your way back down hopefully finding the El Trillo restaurant for some wonderful food.
I recommend a visit to Casa del Chapiz, a mansion with gardens, and Carmens de la Victoria, enchanting hidden gardens (that are very close to each other). And also Mezquita Mayor de Granada, a mosque - you can enter the gardens for free and there is a beutiful view of la Alhambra. Calle Elvira and Calle Calderería Nueva are great for eating and having a Moorish tea. Also for souvenir shopping.
On my recent (first) visit to Granada, this was my favourite area. Allow yourself a full morning before the crowds arrive and prepare to get lost. If you take the 'Granada City Tour' trailer bus (8 euros) , from say, Cathedral/Plaza Romanilla (via Alhambra stops), alight at stop 6 'Mirador San Cristobal / Albaicin, then work your way back down to Carrera Del Darro.
Albaicin is an interesting area, with lots of shops selling arabic style goods and there are plenty of Teterías (Arabic tea rooms) lower down the hill, especially on Calle Calderería Nueva, and Calle Elvira. Like Sacromonte, a lot of Albaicin is quite steep and has winding, cobbled streets and alley ways so good footwear is recommended. Mirador San Nicolás gets very busy in the late afternoon / early evening and there are lots of traders selling their wares on the ground. They aren't pushy though and didn't seem to be pestering anyone. There's a great ice cream shop nearby - Helados San Nicolas on Camino Nuevo de San Nicolás, 28, which also sells cold drinks etc.
Full of character and from St Nicholas’s church there is a stunning view of the Alhambra .They do warm you about bag snatchers but weren’t troubled .You can catch the C32 bus if you don’t fancy walking
We loved Granada and our stay! The location of this hotel is awesome - right between the river and the Albaicin (and, as we found out on the trip - the Hammam bathhouse). The hotel was a clean, comfortable respite as we would come in for our sista in the heat of the day or at night. The room and bathroom were fairly large, as European hotels go. The staff was helpful in trying to arrange reservations and the breakfast was good - though we just ate there one morning. We could even see the Alhambra from our room!
This Hotel is in an excellent location. Part of the old town very central and easy to walk to places. There were lots of restaurants close by. We walked to the Alhambra, all up hill, as well as the Albaicin area, also uphill. Staff was friendly and helpful. Did a bag of laundry for 25 euros. The breakfast was good with a variety of breads, meats, cheese etc. and is up on the terrace. Beautiful views of the City. Would recommend this place or stay again if in Granada.
Couldn't be more pleased. The hotel is gorgeous, the terrace view is incredible, the room was clean, spacious, and well furnished, and the price was reasonable. The location is great, but not that near Albaicin. So if is planning to spend most of their time in the Albaicin or just doing a quick stay to see Alhambra it's probably not ideal.
Super cozy hostel right in the middle of Albaicin, the medieval part of Granada. The decorations are on point and the rooms are super cozy, each with their own character. Beds, bathrooms and common areas are all clean and well maintained. The staff are super friendly and are always ready to help you out. Feels more like a collective than a hostel.
Comfortable quiet room (4) overlooking a cobbled cul de sac Very well located for walking to the Alhambra and exploring the Albaicin area - although be prepared for stiff climbs in both cases. Tastefully converted old moorish house with internal courtyard Parking in the street outside the hotel, by arrangement
Great location in the Albaicin, close to shops and restaurants. The hotel and particularly the room I stayed in had an amazing view of the Alhambra. Clean, spacious room with a comfortable bed. Great patio area for dining and lounging with an amazing view of the Alhambra. Great breakfast.
Very spacious, great location and very affordable. We ended up with an apartment and had more space than we knew what to do with. You could order groceries through the hotel as well which was convenient given that there aren’t any stores in the Albaicin area. Highly highly recommend.
Perfect location for visiting Alhambra and Albaicin. Sonia was amazingly helpful for anything we needed. There is a private parking near the hotel. The apartment is very comfortable, clean, fully furnished and equipped. Highly recommended!!
Excellent location, in the Albaicin area. Bus to the Alhambra just in front of the hotel, a small market nearby, close to restaurants, bars. Parking area inside a building. The staff is lovely.
The hotel is located in Albaicin quarter and has a nice patio inside. The kitchen is available.
Explore the smaller streets off the main track, go for a walk in the Albaicin and Realejo without following a map and just walk down whichever street or alleyway looks pleasing to you. There will be lots of little corners well worth discovering.
callejear es lo más agradable: subiendo al Sacromonte, al Albaicin o a la Alhambra. Es todo exótico, otra dimensión, otra época en los jardines.
