Amazing location. The cabin is very comfortable. It had a dishwasher and running potable water. It is really very cosy and warm (we have visited end of December). The host is very nice and even organized ice fishing equipment for us.

I arrrived at the hotel at 20.15 and, although the kitchen closes at 20.00, dinner was prepared for me with a big smile. Breakfast was great the next day, the owner and staff were very friendly to me. You feel at home when staying there.

Staying at the "new" Valamo monastery is a trip into another space and time. The industry and enterprise of the Monks and their ecosystem of volunteers is evident and impressive. The visitor is present in their world. There is a very good guided tour, and even though Monks are not known for being talkative, if you are lucky it is possible to have a meaningful conversation. It is possible to begin to understand the structure of the religion. A wonderful, memorable experience.
