Before you use Heathrow study up on this massive massive airport. Distances if you are walking or toting luggage are incredible. Use the Heathrow express if you can to move from terminal to terminal but it does not run early in morning. Use satellite navigation if possible and ask lots of questions. I walked close to ten miles when arriving becuz of poor directions.
hotel was good and suited a overnight stay room was good and comfortable . they arranged taxi early next morning and it was waiting outside ready at agreed time ,it looked very impressive and expensive but fare was very reasonable
Heathrow is simply way too complicated not matter what anyone says. It's all closed in and a claustphobic like myself would have a terrible time there. It's not so much the end point where you come out and get a bus, but just getting thru the entire airport. When I was departing from Terminal 5, the building was open with a whole wall of windows. However, getting anywhere around inside the airport is horrible for a person like myself who can't handle being enclosed. Flying is also hard but I can cope. Going thru the rat's maze of this airport actually caused me to break down with a panic attack. I will not want to fly in to Hearthrow ever again if I can help it.
Don't get lost! Waiting areas look the same and restrooms are far away. Going through security was a nightmare. Search minutia, must be their motto. We knew this from previous experience and tried to do everything according to Hoyle.
I was actually in Terminal 3. Heathrow Airport is very old and it shows. Many long hikes to reach the airplane. For a 71 year old with a bad knee there is a lot of walking between the Departure Lounge and the departure gates for the airliners.
