A historical Castle which was built on a mound overlooking the Town and surrounding land. The Castle on 3 sides is very rocky and steep making it very difficult for enemy forces to scale. The main entrance has a moat which no longer has water in it and a draw bridge which no longer can be removed and a portcullis to prevent attack by invading forces. The Castle was used by Royalty both Scottish and English. Road to the Castle Esplanade is cobble stones and can be very unco when driving or walking up the steep hill . There is a charge to park on the Esplanade and to gain entry to the Castle. There is a discount from the admission to the Castle Via Historic Scotland membership which is well worth taking out. When visiting the Castle there is a part of the Castle which sticks out like a sore thumb a yellow building which is the Banqueting Hall. For a very long time hundreds of years the Banqueting Hall was the same colour as the rest of the Castle. In 1990’s someone came up with a plan that the Castle Banqueting Hall was originally a yellow colour when constructed and should be returned to that colour. This plan was passed and ever since the work on the Banqueting Hall was complete. The Castle does not look the same any more it’s as if the Banqueting Hall was stuck on to the rest of the Castle.
The castle is full of very interesting historical items as well as items from more recent times. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. There is a little cafe on site selling a variety of hot and cold snacks. Thought the inclusion of little lego men in some of the displays a very good idea to keep children occupied looking for them and noting where they were.
Dire and not good value for money. Worth paying a fiver but not fourteen quid. Only a few areas in the Castle worth visiting. Too much military rubbish on show too along with propaganda justifying killing people who disagree with you.
Amazing castle, one of our favorites in Scotland, especially if you have kids they have a whole area for them to learn, play and interact with the history of the Castle - wich is also fun for adults. the map they give at the entrance is very helpful, as it guides you so you don't miss a thing. Plus you even have actors bringing the castle alive, empersonating historical figures and interacting with visitors. The castle also offers great views over stirlingshire and Wallace Monument ahead. Make sure you have at least one hour, maybe two to learn and see everything. And dont miss the Castle Kitchens! you can also park your car outside the castle for 4£.
Great castle, better than Edinburgh castle. Is not useful to buy internet tickets you should go to the queue again to validate. On site write that you mast buy tickets online 1 day before to access slot visiting from 9-11. Not true, selling tickets from 9.30 at office tickets. 08.2018
Visit the gift shop, make your purchases and then put them in your car. We were very disappointed when we came down from the monument to find the gift shop closed and my son could not get a sword that he really wanted and that we had not seen anywhere else!! I wish they would keep the gift shop open for 30 minutes past the monument closing to give last minute visitors time to purchase items.
The experience was sufficient for a young enthusiastic traveler on budget,. Staff was relatively friendly. There was a nice self-service kitchen with two shared fridges. Three of the sightseeing highlights of Stirling were almost next door on the hill (the Stirling castle, the Church of Holy Rude, and the old jail). The hostel's old building and surrounding area were impressive and pleasant.
This is a nice property in a good location within walking distance of the sights, I.e,Stirling Castle. The apartment was clean and spacious. It had a common kitchen, sitting area, and laundry facilities. The hosts reached out to us with clear check in procedures and checked in to make sure all was well. The apartment was also very reasonable.
Fantastic location, spotless recently updated room, and Richard was a great host! Parking was easy and it was an easy pleasant walk to Stirling Castle. The room was absolutely sparkling clean with new furnishings and decor and Richard is a thoughtful host that takes great care to provide a comfortable stay for his guests.
This bed and breakfast was in the perfect location right under the Stirling castle with a ten minutes' walk up a trail to visit. The place was exquisitely appointed and staff so friendly. Breakfast-delish!
The staff was friendly and welcoming, the breakfast selection was excellent, and it is well located - not too far from two grocery stores plus restaurants and attractions like Stirling Castle.
Centrally located, 8 minutes 0.4 miles (600 meters) walk from the train and bus stations and 12 minutes 0.6 miles (1 km) walk from Stirling Castle. City Wall is a nice pub next door.
The location is fabulous. Perfect for walking to Stirling castle and shopping. The price was great—But I guess it's true you get what you pay for. The breakfast was nice enough.
breakfast was great, good restaurant. big room. location was good, bottom of the hill for stirling castle, next to waitrose.
Nice historic property with easy walking distance to restaurants, shops, and Stirling Castle.
Stirling castle is absolutely astounding in their attention to detail in the restoration work.
Stirling Castle was very big and had very elaborate exhibitions for visitors. A small renovation on the exterior grounds going on, but did not disrupt my visit at all. The Stirling Heads were fabulous, whole place kept me entertained for over 4 hours, very much worth the price!
You can visit Stirling Castle and the battlefield of the Bannockburn
