Wells Cathedral is absolutely stunning. The carvings on the west front are magnificent and we particularly liked the clock inside. The stained glass windows are also beautiful. You can book to go on special tours that take you up higher into the cathedral but we didn't have time. We loved the green at the front of the cathedral but would have loved it to be more lit up at night.
GORGEOUS! We visited day and night to get some cool shots of this cathedral. It is very intricate and grand. You can't go inside (that we could see!) but it's great to see from outside. Someone was having a wedding there, so there's that too!
I thought the cathedral was spectacular, Hower I did not like that they take your donation from you on the way in and there are “ suggested” donation amounts on signs before being guided through a till point, I think that is very wrong.
The cathedral is superb. The staff and volunteers are absolutely wonderful and knowledgeable. There's currently a former architect who is really helpful and grab him while you can he's 90+ but looks 20 Years youner. Forgot to ask the secret of his longevity.
Lovely architecture but what I did object to is if you want to go inside there are signs saying no admission fee when you get to the entrance a huge sign says the suggested donation is £6.50. A donation is a donation. So while I appreciate the cost of upkeeping such a magnificent building I think this is very misleading and they should change to a straightforward admission fee.
Amazing. Opt for the tour - hourly on the hour - and then wander round a bit on your own inside and out side, including seeing Vicars Close. Also go to the Bishop's Palace and Gardens. Excellent cafes in both places where the profits go to maintaining these wonderful places.
Wells Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace are both stunning buildings, while Vicars Close is the oldest inhabited street in Europe - well worth a visit
