Check which monasteries are open (some close in various days of the week) and get there early before the buses arrive, or later in the afternoon when they have left. Great area for hiking and climbing. Very clean and neat considering the huge numbers of tourists. Best to stay at least overnight. Must be able to do steps!!

This place blew us away.

This place blew us away. We were in Greece for 2 weeks and this was one of our favorite activities- it's just absolutely breathtaking! The rock formations look other wordly and pictures do not even do it justice. The views from up top are amazing- it was cloudy the whole time we were there and it was still beautiful. We were in Kalabaka for about 24 hours, but honestly would have liked to stay another day just to relax and take in the views. We did a half day hike which included going into one monestary and then went into one other monestary on our own. We didn't feel like we needed to visit each monestary as the outside views are what we enjoyed more. If you have a car, you can easily drive up to all of the monestaries, but some of them do have a lot of steep steps you have to take.

If you really want to explore the area at your own pace, hire an electric bike. Don't brother with guided tours, they really are all the same with the guide talking too much and occurring in the heat of midday.

It was amazing, really worth the trip although we took the mountain road on the way there and it was a bit scary but it was raining as well, quite a few hairpin bends but took a better road when we left. You can’t imagine how those monasteries were built all those years ago. The tour we booked did not turn up but we still managed to explore on our own.

The place had the best bathroom of all hotels we booked in Greece. Modern new, shower working perfectly. Kids spotted it immediately - best bathroom we had so far. Superb place to start exploring Meteoras. The LIDL is just cross the street. close distance to the city center. If You are in the city to explore Meteoras - best place to stay. BIG FREE PARKING with a lot of space just in front of the building

The room with double bed is extraordinary. Very clean, all set and equipped. Good breakfast , and excellent view to Meteora. Would recommend a stay of at least 2 nights, 1 one night was not enough to fell the hotel atmosphere, visit all the main monasteries and enjoy the small town of Kalabaka.

Honestly - this was the nicest out of all the hotels we stayed in during our Greek tour (and all of them were really nice). Everything about this hotel feels just right: the most central location thinkable in Kalabaka, the most beautiful design, the most comfort, the kindest attitude by the staff, the tastiest breakfast... It all went so smoothly. Nothing but good words to say. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Meteora.

Very lovely stay to explore Meteora - there is a nice market nearby, many restaurants and the town of Kastraki has much better vibe than Kalabaka. Hotel is modern, parking is available, breakfast is amazing, we had a room with views of Meteora and at night it is just magical, even more so with a glass of wine or Ouzo.

We stayed one night in the apartment situated near to the main street of Kalabaka. Parking is free on the street. The place is quiet and safe, and everything looks exactly as on the pictures. The owner was helpful and quickly replying to our messages. We would definitely recommend the stay in this apartment for visiting Meteora and the town of Kalabaka.

The Aurora Suite apartment was the perfect base for our trip to Meteora! Located right in the center of Kalabaka, it was within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and cafes. The highlight was the balcony—waking up to the breathtaking view of the Meteora rocks was unforgettable. The apartment itself was clean, comfortable, modernly furnished, and well-equipped with everything we needed. If you're visiting Meteora, I highly recommend staying here—it’s a fantastic location with an incredible view!

Wonderful location to access Meteora monasteries and Kalabaka. Beautiful space, smartly and thoughtfully appointed and very generous with towels as needed. The apartment we stayed in was a little tight for the four of us (2 adults, 14 yo and 11yo) but we were comfortable and really loved it. Description and photos definitely do it justice and the parking behind the villa is perfect. Very communicative and kind hosts and everything was very easy. Highly recommend.

Everything is perfect - quiet location down an alley but minutes away from the main street of Kalabaka so super convenient. Well equipped and spacious - perfect for a family of 4/5. Tastefully decorated and well maintained. Host is very responsive, friendly and helpful providing lots of useful tips around Meteora. Greeted upon arrival and got shown how everything works and where to park. Definitely the best apartment we've stayed in during the trip in Greece

Kalabaka is located at the foot of the Meteora monasteries, that are built on top of a very strange natural phenomenon. Very impressive sight, both natural (the rock formations) and cultural (the monasteries on top).

It is hundreds of years old monasteries that was built during the Byzantine era. The panoramic views in Meteora and breathtaking landscape is a must see. The history involved the activities you can do. Some of the monasteries have been abandoned and are now ruins.

I recommend coming here in the winter like we did. The air is fresh and you can appreciate the Meteora more in the Winter. I can't imagine walking in heat in this area. Though you can take tents in the summer but it can get too crowded. So late Spring and early Autumn is the ideal time.
