Diocletian's palace is over rated, while it is beautiful but I was shocked and horrified to see the locals celebrate a local wedding that made a mess with fireworks and streamers in a UNESCO site. Unheard of but seems to be due corrupt people in power and wealthy locals flaunting the rules. The place is very crowded with restaurants all over this UNESCO site tourist leaving wrappers and garbage in corners. Very sad and disgraceful with locals allowing food to be served and eaten in a world heritage site.
Diocletian's Palace is the main reason to visit Split. This is not a museum, although it contains several museums. The palace is a living piece of history that continues to evolve and to be used by residents and visitors alike. It is great to experience an historic place that is so energized day and night. We explored the historic elements, experienced impromptu concerts and a wedding, and we ate, shopped, enjoyed coffee, wine, and cocktails, and relaxed within its walls. I could spend many more days there and I would learn even more.
Skip the walking tour as you can easily ask the locals about its history or google it in. Lovely cafes to sit down and drink some coffee or different drinks. Few good restaurants as well as ice cream stalls. Lovely tiny streets with colourful windows. Walk by the night was fa
Would highly recommend taking a tour by a knowledgeable tour guide. We would have missed so much history and may have either bypassed streets of significance or simply not found them had we not someone to guide us.
An incredibly beautiful space. I bit like being transported back to a movie set. Not to be missed during the day and on a warm summer evening. It's very busy, but if you go to Split it's not to be missed!
We spent two weeks in Croatia in June. Although we really looked forward to seeing the Palace, we found it disappointing. You can definitely see it in an afternoon. There is not a whole lot to see. Make sure that you tour the basement. Also, consider joining a walking tour. We did not do this, but it might have helped. We just used a detailed written tour from a tour book. Finally, unless you absolutely have no other choice, don't bother touring the Palace in the afternoon. It will be packed and miserable. Go in the early morning. It is much more beautiful and striking when it is not full of people.
Beautiful apartment like room in a very old building. The accommodation has been modernized to a very high degree. Excellent shower and facilities. The king size bed is outstanding for comfortable sleep. Very quiet with the windows closed. Surrounded by restaurants, a few steps to Diocletian’s Palace and the seafront promenade. Ivo, the host, arranged parking at a very convenient location and he always responds within minutes. “That’s my job,” he said. Ideal location for exploring Split.
The location of the hostel, is in the heart of the Diocletian’s palace and just 10 minutes by walking from the bus station. The cleanness was always good and the size of the room was perfect. The staff was also friendly and they have a nice cat. Finally, the view from the room is nice.
Would highly recommend this hotel- fabulous location and knowledgeable and friendly staff. We had a room overlooking Diocletian’s Palace. Could get noisy at night, but windows are thick and it was not a problem when we closed them and used the AC
This is a very cute apartment in the ancient ruins of the Diocletian’s Palace. There are many fine restaurants and shops within a few steps of the apartment. The owner has really made this a clean, comfortable place to stay.
The inside was nice, spotless and the ac worked good. The proximity to the Diocletian’s palace was great and central to all of the Split’s historic interests. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating.
Great location to historic Split and Diocletian’s Palace. Several beaches nearby and several excellent restaurants all within an easy walk.
