Incredible!! One visit was not enough!! I paid extra to see the complete collections and it was totally worth it. I need to visit again to improve information absorbtion. The detail and scale of historical content was amazing. Don't go on an empty stomach because you need energy to process everything and walk around to see everything. Incredible collection!!
A place to spend hours and soak in Hungarian history. (spent four hours) Very well organized and good English subtitles. As a trained historian there were some interpretations that were skewed to satisfy nationalistic agendas. That's ok, but wish there had been a more extensive interpretation of modern history--especially 1945-1989. They should have a good history of Hungary in their bookstore in English by a reputable historian.
If you want to know better any nations in the world always start at they National Museum like in Hungary !!! You can see the more than 1000 years of success , sacrifice and heroism . Also , you can find some exceptional exhibitions like Arthur Gorgey or the Seuso treasure . Both is unmissable make sure to visit them !!!!!
Also 7nder construction. No wheelchairs available for hire. Need a full day to properly bisit. Fantastic presentations of history but ne3d time and must rent audio equipment. You shpuld be allowef to do half. Have a break and do the rest. The hourly rate mounts up exponentially.
So, I come from Transilvania, an area which many Hungarians consider to be actually belonging to Hungary. Without entering historical debates I would say that the total lack of information on the translated plates about this region's majority of inhabitants from the 1st century AD (and before) until modern times is dissapointing. Romanians (dacians and later, Romanians) were present in Transilvania before the Hungarians came to rule it. During the Hungarian vasality they've always represented at least 60% of the region's population (you also had sasi/germans and secui, alongside the Hungarian nobilty). That is why Transilvania became part of Romania in 1918. The museum presents none of the info above and focuses on one story only: the Hungarian nationalist one. Otherwise, many exponats, well liten and not overly croweded.
Great collections. Some displays are not explained in english too so the audio guide is really helpful. What I dislike the most is the fact that you cant take photos in the museum :( you have to pay for a photo pass which I find very weird and oldschool.
Safe place. Very large and spacious room. Near public transport and eateries. Staff were friendly and helpful. Near Dohany Synagogue and Hungarian National Museum, Gellert Hill, Central Market Hall and Vaci Street.
